- Intel CPU  i7 nice but Core2 is acceptable
- 4 GB RAM

There are a few here.

http://www.intel.com/consumer/shop/notebook/core_i7.htm

Looks like the Nvidea 260m is the card of choice for gaming i7 notebooks. The 280 would be the way to go, at the moment. You aren't going to get DX11 from either of them though. AFAIK there haven't been any mobile DX11 cards released yet.

They're based in Ottawa, but they offer their products in USD. I assume they ship to the US. You can get an i7 w/Nvidea 280 for under $2k.

I would check out Asus.Acer and Toshiba.

This is in CDN prices but with the exchange it will be slightly cheaper.

Asus makes a good laptop. Glad to see you didn't buy an Acer or equivalent. If they do the same unit with a 280 vid card that would be ideal. Except for battery life. The extra performance does have a price.

Anyway, nice laptop you've chosen there. 8)

For a price, I'll redo a saddle and cut a new nut for a lefty, since I've done it for my wife..although it was for a classical..electrics generally just mean moving hardware around and cutting a new nut..

An acoustic would involve a new bridge, since the saddle mount would have to be routed to a different angle than a standard bridge..but all can be overcome..

Go to Dell.com and HP.com and configure one and see what Christmas specials are running.  I can usually build a hefty one there for between $900 and $1300.

One caution with HP though, they have the lowest life expectancy in the laptop market.

HP suck, we use them at work.  The servers and desktops are excellent though.

two of the best guitar players I know are lefties who play right handed.   If you're just picking up a guitar and you're a lefty, learn to play right-handed and save yourself a load of pain.

Dell doesn't have over seas support outside of North America and HP the hinges are a problem. You mean like Jimi Hendrix.

DH, I put my four string bass together myself, buying a blank body, a used neck, and installing the electrics myself..

The wife says I can get a five string (I'd love the ultra low B), but it will have to wait until the company's contract negotions are done in March..

BTW, my kids have all moved out..it's the grandkids now...

DH, are you still looking for a gaming laptop?  If so, try www.xoticpc.com.  All their systems are customizable, and most of their systems can come with XP if you want it to, or if you've got a copy of Windows laying around that isn't being used, you can have the laptop shipped without an OS, just a drivers disc.  In fact, the laptop I'm on right now I bought from them, and it works incredibly well.  Haven't tried it for gaming, but it's beautiful, and I put XP on it, and it's running great, and I couldn't beat the price.

Just thought I'd post.
