This one looks like Redragon's work..

And those were definitely GAFY's textures on the Hatfield.

Guess that the next question is.. what are your policies for your bashes?  My biggest concern is that someone might try and link what we do here to the for-profit model operation.  And I think that with most people, they use a form of "not-for-profit, enjoy but don't make money from or Paramount will sue us" type agreement in the credits for their releases.  In that case, advising Paramount that someone is using your fan art in their for profit operation and you had nothing to do with it might be the best course.

But if people are releasing their stuff with the "do what thou wilt for that is the whole of the Law" type permissions, then I don't know what grounds a person has to stand on if a for-profit group uses their mesh to generate some box art for a model, and if Paramount would treat the for-profit group in the same light as what we're doing.  I'd hope that we'd be okay.. I can't see any issues seeing we've been around for as long as we have.. but then again, Paramount has also gone through three different owners since we started here as well.  So who knows..

The OutaLance Policy has always been "Ask Permission First" along with including all the registered trademarks etc in the read me's. Never did we say anything we made could be used for profit or without our consent.

Check those poses as well... looks like someone datamined the images from Outalance and used those for the model art.  Simple what it looks like they did.

They chose your images with the black background, did a magic lasso type select of everything except the ship, once they added suitably large borders of black, then pasted in a spacey background into the selected area.. finally cropping to fit whatever parameters they had.  So it looks like they lifted your images and used them for the box art, but probably didn't know how to open a .MOD file to do a render.

But I just did the same as what they probably did, with these results.

(I left the jaggies on there on purpose, something else to check on the box art images).

Definitely, there should be at *least* hot chicks somewhere on the page.  Otherwise, if we don't rate hot chicks, there's definite underselling going on.  (GRIN).

I know it honks me off to find my stuff show up somewhere without being asked, especially because all I ask is a snapshot of my stuff ingame and to let me know it's there so I can see it there and being used.  I suppose you can be glad that it's just the images, and they didn't have a clue how to adapt the mesh and textures..

I agree, that looks like a sceen shot of your ship done up to that back ground, but how long have those models been around cuz i looked at that same page a long time ago and that ship's graphics on the hatefield class have always been like that cuz that would have been one on my list to buy.

The models you see there are from at least 2004 or older, so they had plenty of time to develope the minitures. The minitures look like they might be SFB compatible in size, and the price of 17.00 is about what those minitures use to cost.

Theft? probably but if you put it on the web this is bound to happen. Is it credited to the orginal authors at least the art work? don't know but if it opens us to a law suit best to report it as we are not involved with this site policy before they come to us.

Though the TOS FJ Federation class dreadnought is pretty much paramount IP. How they have their model configured is almost exactly how i have my interpretation the dreadnought configured. Third nacelle grill facing up. Old 1st pilot style impulse engines. and the pennant on the 3rd nacelle is exactly how i have mine textured Similar to the TMP connie. with the ship name, and UFP behind it. The only thing missing is the reliant style red stripes by the main registry. Not that there is much we can do about it. My models have been available for years as well. I think its flattering that they would use what we did as inspiration.

Congrats guys! I guess the only think I would look for is a little blurb to the effect of "box art by [HANDLE]." Too bad they didn't do any Atolm ships, I would want to see some physical models of those!

whats theft...or atleast robbery, so what they're charging for some of these models which are only a few inches long at best..hardly worth the work to complete, plus I hear resin kits are often done cheaply by garage manufacturers and are dificult to assemble due to poor quality.

It would be nice for them to credit the art work and place a the owner of the site is the only person responsible for the money part. I don't really care all that much but don't want Paramount, or any other IP owner, coming after me for something I have no part in.

In this case they dont care. I have seen atleast 5 models of mine used for cnc machineing and not a single person asked BEFORE they did anything. They have no problems begging after the fact though. They can get away with it legaly for the fact its not a design they claim they are selling but the resin cast or plastic work. Frakin lawyers screw it up for everyone. Edit: Note I am not Defending this case just stateing a fact i have already called a lawyer about  :-X
