   Well, reviving an old subject...

I finally got some time and built a D2 system, and moved the hard drives over to the new case...and wouldn't you know, the C: drive came up with an error...so, I tried to recover with the XP disk..well..it keeps asking me for the administrator password, which of course I don't remember...

Anyone know of a way to bypass this so I don't have to reformat and reinstall..I'm old, and forget where all the friggin' disks are since the kids have moved out and we remodeled spare bedrooms into offices...

And I'm tired of using my wife's left handed computer

I imagine they would know but Pestalence or toasty would know for sure.I think you would have to go into your control panel and select users accounts and change the admin pw.However you would need the admin pw to do this.You could google I forgot my pw in xp how do retrieve it.You might want to perform system restore.

I wouldn't mind having a left handed keyboard anyway good luck.

Thanks guys, I got around the password problem..useful sites...

Now however, I seem to have inherited Nick's problem, I keep getting a thermal shutdown...

In bios, it shows the temp at 102 C..way too hot, but ambient inside the case at 40 C...

I fired my laser thermometer at the CPU (perks of being a metrologist and calibrating this stuff), and it showed the CPU at 42 to 44 C...so....

When I get some spare time, I'll reset the CPU and fan, and hopefully find the sensor, and if necessary, bypass it..

If the CPU was really at 102 C, I could make tea on it...

Thanks again..and any suggestions on bypassing a thermal sensor ?

Good luck with that. When I contacted the motherboard manufacturer to get the location of the sensor on the board they treated the question with complete bewilderment. Perhaps my engrish wasn't broken enough.

I too would greatly appreciatte a way to bypass or disable a temp sensor.

Well, I still haven't gotten around to it, but Intel does post the board's location of the sensors...

Just for S&Gs, I checked the wife's computer's CPU temp in the bios...  -23 degrees C..I'm not kidding  gives me a lot of faith in these self monitoring stuff

Ahh well, turkey day is coming, all I have to bring to the kid's house is the turkey and mashed taters..'til then, I'll use the Mrs.' computer..she has her laptop
