My youth in Arcadia
« on: December 02, 2009, 08:11:11 am »
its been a long time since i have come around here, and i apologize to all those that i was supposed to help out for not being around. my family life has been keeping me pretty busy and i haven't had much time to keep up with things and my projects have majorly suffered. i only just started getting back into modeling a few weeks ago after more than a year off. at least i still have the talent, actually the break has done me some good. now on to the reason we are all here, the model. i have always loved Captain Harlock's Arcadia and have used Atra's for a long time playing SFC single player but it was by his own admission very inaccurate. i wanted to create a more accurate version for SFC. the Arcadia is currently sitting at just under 8k polys, there are a few more details to add so i am going to speculate just under 10k for the completed model. textures will probably be the hardest part as i am still not very good at it but i plan to do it on my own for this one.

well the main mesh is complete at 7548 polys all i have left to do is the wood scroll work along the edge and top of the Gallion (hopeing to keep it less than 1500 polys) and then she will be ready for textures. Thanks for the offer Miles  ;D i think i will take you up on it since i have never been good at texturing. i guess i will need a base green and a wood planking texture. i will try unwrapping it this weekend to give a better idea of whet is needed.

IIRC Starblazers was the Starship Yamamoto.  Similar looks but alot of differences.

Well, both based on Japanese anime.  Starblasers was based on the ship going to another planet to get some tech to save the earth, and the forces trying to stop it from making it there (but, dang, it was along time ago since I watched it).

I think they are different universes, but same time frame of being made.

The Battleship Arcadia came from the anime Arcadia of my youth, and the Argo/Yamato came from Spacebattleship Yamato/Starblazers bot were created by the same person Leiji Matsumoto who also created Galaxy Express, Queen Emmereldas, and Cosmo Warrior Zero. there have been many crossing of the different animes and the Arcadia did appear in Yamato/Starblazers as the Deathshadow Kodai/Wildstars long lost older brothers ship.

I hope you're going to do a whole line here. I love to see the Deathshadow (Harlocks first ship) and the Blue Arcadia. Ok dont get me started being the model junkie that I am, it would be cool to have all the ships and fighters from the Harlock series lol

As for the Starblazzers questions ...........

Quote
Is it the same universe/franchise?

No, but yes there is a tie in ......

THE MUSASHI

- The sister ship to the famous Japanese battleship Yamato (STARBLAZERS), the Musashi was sunk in the battle of the Sibuyan Sea by a massive Allied air assault on October 24th, 1944, after taking nineteen torpedo hits.

- In Space Pirate Captain Harlock, the wreck of the Musashi reappears in the Sargasso Sea, manipulated by the Mazone in order to lure the Arcadia into Aman's undersea menagerie.

- Sure, the Musashi isn't really an earth spaceship, but , it does get a chance to fly before the Arcadia sends it back to the bottom of the ocean.

lol just like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon ;)

MP and others,

here is a small list of models i plan on building i will start with the Arcadia as it is still in progress

Green Arcadia
Blue Arcadia (simply a mod of the green)
Queen Emeraldas
Deathshadow
Cammander Zeda's Stalzart

this list is only tentative and may change at any time. but i hope to keep things on track as i feel my skills are now up to the task of building them. i will also be releasing the models for download as papercraft kits so those that want a physical model can have one.
