Gmax- Vista export to .mod issues/problems
« on: October 24, 2009, 12:16:10 am »
Ive got some issues i never had with XP when i export some models to .mod i get a windows host rundll32 error and it wont stop untill i remove the file. I was able to export this model at one point as a brk mod the left pic but the next step or any other step after this i get the error/crash. Any ideas /help out there? Is this a virus or a vista issue?

IIRC Gmax does have an artificially induced poly limit. I don't remember exactly what it was 64k seems to stick out in my head though. I understand what FW is saying about the themes though. Stuff like that can cause all kinds if weird things.

Well its not Gmax its the .mod file i have been looking back at some of my old models and Some crash the rundll32 file also and those models were NOT made with gmax. So the problem is vista or someone is able to hack the .mod file itself. Either way it sucks i wont be able to release about 1/3 of the work i have done.

Well, that sucks. How about getting them all ready for export as .mod with damage points, smoothing, etc,,, and having some others here who can, export to .mod for you? I would lend a hand, if you wanted.

I have tryed that many times i have asked for help and i have had MANY say sure but then they see my work "thats crappy in their eyes" and just forget they ever wanted to help or offerd in the first place. FEW have helped which i have greatly admired and thanked but most have their own agenda. Kinda funny to when some wanted my models so damn much they would hack me to get them but wouldnt try and help me get them finished and released they rather be that FIRST person to release that said ship design, or just stop me alltogether which i am about to do any way. I just want to model and show my work for fun not be hacked and have 10k in problems trying to get 1 model released this is NOT worth my time anymore.

If you get them all set ready to be exported and just saved in Gmax native format all anyone would have to do is open and then export. I can't imagine someone with Gmax and the .mod plugin not being willing to do that. I've converted quite a number of models from .lws, to .mod for people. That's a lot more work. I could do a few at a time for you, if you'd like me to, and I sure won't complain about the quality of them. I've always liked your models, personally.

If you and anyone else is willing to export to sfc and possably 3ds and or obj file for me i will create a Gmax thread linking all work i have created in that program . I will only link models i have not been able to export that i made for the SFC  and other gameing communitys. I make all my work to release for free for all to use as they wish. I do know most of my work is only good for cannon  fodder but the way i see the world cannon fodder is needed more than any other because BEAUTIFULL is not to be destroyed in game much  :coolsmiley:

Kreeargh, did you miss my post? I'll export models for you. I just need a link(s) and possibly if you have any that you are more keen to be done sooner, rather than later.

Im working on that clone wars y wing but im haveing hell maping it all in gmax. Its takeing way longer than i thought  and it dont look good. Alot of models i do i map the stuff in gmax that m6sfced wont do proper then export to the non brk mod so m6 will open it then i finish out the maping.
I have tryed to export my lame attempt at the menevalance{attached} ion canon ship with no sucess i get that rundll32 crash at export the zip has the texture and the non maped and maped version the maped version is not totaly finished cause i was going to finish it with m6. I was able to export it at one point without a crash but it had fliped polys so i imported it back in gmax to flip the polys back then i exported it  and crash ever since then i have been geting these damn crashes on SOME models which is strange to me. Ill try and get the Y wing and its variants finished\posted today and finish the Managuard fighter tonight i was able to get most of it exported with no crash but i need to make the engines and we will see of that part exports ok with the rest of the model  ;)

OK. I've exported it to .mod. Opened the .mod in another ap (Ultimate Unrap3D) with no problems. Mapping seems fine. Just for the heck of it I also re-saved the original files in Gmax. See if they behave better on your PC now. Maybe they will? They both opened and exported just fine for me. Of course, I'm on XP.

Anyway, here's the file back with the .mod. All I did was a straight export. If you need something else done, let me know. If all you need is straight exports like this, I can do as many as you like. It only takes a few seconds.

Thankyou thankyou  :notworthy: :notworthy:
I forgot to attach the peices in the gmax file so the mod file you exported ended up as a brk mod m6sfced wont open it for me to finish mapping it but  the Gmax file you did i was able to export it to mod that m6 opened though the mesh was fliped in poly i will try in a few to get points on it size it up fixed and get it released.
Here is the Y wing im not so happy with what its texture job looks like in the gmax ui but i hope it looks better in m6 and modviewer. The texture is 12 megs uncompressed i dont know where i can upload that except at battleclinic and i dont want to release it yet  :-\  Let me know if you need it. Here is the gmax file it should export to .mod in the non brk mod option without asking for lods . When i do it i just have to delete it.  I miss xp  :'(

 >:( Not the ywing the second i unziped it it crashed rundll32 agian  :knuppel2: im about to smash vista :knuppel2:  >:( .  I have noticed more of my older models are doing this but not all of them which is strange. Like my starwars soro suub 3000 crashes it but my trek mauwasi ,rom shipyard and fredrickstrand does not . I really would like to know whats up with this.  If someone is wanting me to quit this sure is a fast way of doing it with these crashes.
Can you check these 2 gmax files out one day gmax crashed and now bolth files wont open this was my first attempt at the y wing.  I will make the damn model over agian and see if the 3rd time is the charm  :'(

Can I have the texture too? If it won't zip up small enough to post here, email it to me.
