Help with mapping ect
« on: September 14, 2009, 12:53:03 pm »
Ok now down there is what im working on, the nacelles are all one peice, and the saucer is all one peice. The NAcelles I could figure out easy enough with a single texture, but side, top, bottom, plus the brige and impulse assembly on top all need seperate textures naturally, how do I accompish this in gmax?

Also how do I make the circular aztech patter for a saucer, I dont own photoshop is there any free programs that can, as my Fireworks MX2004 can not do this, also same problem with hull letting.

Also help me think up a name for this ship, its supposed to look like an early 2200's precursour to like Mirinda TOS, Akula, and Saladin class ships. Its saucer is just a little bigger than an ASIA Class but has no engy hull. Warp Engine is housed horizontaly running left to right in my mind between the nacelles lol I think of it like a Light Cruiser/Destroyer

Easiest way to make a circular aztex is to make a normal aztec, and then pull it into a polar coordinates filter..

What are you using to texture with?  I might be able to point you to something that you can use for free that'll do the job.. :)

(quick mod:  You might want to look at Paint.Net, just found a polar transform plugin for it here:

Macromedia Fireworks MX2004, got it back in Highschool for 59.99 for a student copy as I was taking web grahpic design, ya know for little HTML buttons lol, also bought Macromedia Dreamweaver STuendt for 69.99, would have bought the whole set of MX2004 but student Edition was still 299.99 so I couldnt afford it. If I owned freehand I could do it, but I didnt buy freehand. There are plugins for it of course like photoshop just most of them are expensive and no longer support MX2004

Might be typing this as you're typing.. but try looking for Paint.NET... you'll be able to do up your base textures in Fireworks, and then add effects and such in Paint.NET, which won't cost you a penny.  :)

The design needs to be fleshed out - add some details and add some thickness to the hull. It needs something that will catch the eye as it runs over the design.

Here's a saucer aztec, if you need it.

Here's the pattern that you use the polar coordinates filter on to get the saucer aztec. It can be useful for either making your own or as hull plating.

No prob. It's good to have around. It's the aztec pattern for the TMP Enterprise. Everyone needs a copy in their toolbox, IMO.
