The original source does state that it is not confirmed by Microsoft.  That could be for several reasons even if it is real so I cannot absolutely confirm it.

I got the same thing in an email just a few days ago. Didn't really check it out that much. I mean, all the people  I know live in different states or are just as grumpy as I am . :D :D

I guess it makes sense though.  Replacing Vista is a good thing.

They hired a marketing firm called House Party, which has organized similar house-party campaigns for Ford [F  Loading...      ()], Canon [CAJ  Loading...      ()] and Martha Stewart [MSO  Loading...      ()], among others.

House parties are a brilliant marketing tool for Barbie dolls [MAT  Loading...      ()] or avocado dip — both clients of House Party — especially during a weak economy because everyone involved is basically spreading the word about your product for free. All you have to do is offer a couple of free coupons or some free Tupperware.

But you just knew that once they put the Microsoft geeks in charge of the “party,” that it wouldn’t be a 10-kegger and before long, we’d all be putting lampshades over our heads.

A link (that I have not viewed) to a
Microsoft video
on Youtube promoting the parties.   For some reason comments are disabled for that video.

Whose signature?  Has now been revealed.

Quote
"The goodies are actually very nice, especially the Windows 7 tote bags, perfect for the Cayman Islands for the beach! Also included were Windows 7 branded napkins, a puzzle pack; the pieces come together to form a wallpaper image from Windows 7,” he said.

“There was also a pack of Windows 7 playing cards, a colour poster and of course the piece de resistance, a FULL copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (Steve Ballmer Signature Edition). What I was not expecting though was the Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate Signature 64 bit edition. A nice bonus!"

Microsoft’s poster child Bill Gates had his signature plastered over special edition packs of Windows Vista when it launched in 2006, so it’s hardly surprising to see Redmond repeat its marketing gimmick with Windows 7.

Meanwhile 24-hour-Windows-7-party-people on the look out for a fast buck have already begun flogging their Ballmer-signed copies over at eBay.

You get a Windows 7 box signed by Steve Ballmer.

Seriously, have any of you even watched the video I embedded?  It's a parody of the Windows 7 party video.  Humorless bastards.
