New Ship: Voyager Prime!
« on: September 04, 2009, 07:57:49 pm »
Hi folks,

I posted on this board just a few days ago asking for help in making a brk model. I got that help almost immediately, so I'd like to thank everyone for that.

In return, I present to you my first ever model!

http://sfc.battleclinic.com/docks/view.php?id=4709 (screen shot in link)

It includes a brk model as well as default core and loadout suggested stats.

Basically, it's a six-nacelle, beefed up Intrepid class with some cannons mounted on it. The hardpoints and firing arcs have been modified to actually make the cannons fire!

This started as a joke ship, but I really have grown fond of it during the creation process.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

Thank you,

AnimeRx

if you like going over the top with voyager why not attempt the ficticious warship voyagetr from the museum the docter was part of in an alternate timeline? There really isn't a good one of these around.

Thank you, I've been looking for some decent pics of that.

I have been working on a Warship Voyager, but I've been having some problems texturing the new bits and pieces that I've added on. More specifically, I need to know how to create a texture that fits the new pieces appropriately. I'm fairly okay at Photoshop, but trying to figure out how big to make a texture and how exactly it is going to be wrapped around my 3D piece confuses me somewhat.

Are there any good guides around that could help me learn how to do this better? I just can't (texture)wrap my head around it.

Thanks,

AnimeRx

There are some on meshing and applying textures to it, but let me give you one piece of advice.. think 64 when it comes to SFC textures.

Usually, you'll see textures in ranges like 128x128, 256x256, 512x512 up to 2048x204... but you can also do some textures like 128x2048.  Smallest texture I think I've ever done was 32x32.. but usually the lowest practical limit will be 128x128.

yea most hi res are in 512x512, the older stuff is 256x256 and taladrens superlow res is 128x128 but for older video cards 512x512 will kill them, I loaded up my Deadalus class on a Rive TNT M64 8mb card, it was sluggish, shrunk to 128x128 was smooth but very low res. Today I wouldnt worry about peoples video card ram size, everyone should have 128mb or more today. And if you want superres you can always do 2048x2048 ive seen one model with this, but it lagged on my Geforce 6600GT lol.

but where are these turtoials for meshing and applying textures im very curious about them, as ive been tring to learn this stuff
