Personally, I'd agree with you.. I'd like to see everything over in one place again just because then it tends to get interest in a game going again.
Whenever I go looking for mods for something new, I go to a site with mega files and start my search there.
For instance, I have a small interest in modding the old Freedom Force game (am an old time comic book fan), and wanted to add in a couple of characters that I liked. So, went looking for sites.. found Alex's Freedom Force site. He has base models and base skins up there, and using one of those, I modded it to add in James Marsters "Spike" from "Buffy" into one of my games for fun. Having a "Dead Squad" running in there to go after some baddies (consisting of Spike, Eric Draven, Marvel Zombie Spidey and Zombie Colonel America) was just awesome.
So if I were new to SFC or Star Trek gaming, I'd go looking for "Star Trek gaming" on Google. I'd go to the Wikipedia article there, and towards the top I'd find this: "The Starfleet Command game series released by Interplay was based largely on the tabletop game Starfleet Battles, and comprised Starfleet Command, Starfleet Command 2: Empires at War, and Starfleet Command III. It constitutes one of the most definitive current games, depicting a wide array of ship systems and Star Trek storylines. This series had a more naval flavor, and depicted a number of ship systems. This series spawned a very large multiplayer ladder competition first with the "Starlance" system, and later on the "GamerZone" ladder.
Bridge Commander was another addition to this genre, reflecting the more deliberative, command aspects of this experience."
Then I'd start checking for "Starfleet Command game" on Google, which again leads me to another Wikipedia article. (here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/index.html?curid=222432)
That leads me to a synopsis, that leads me to a ingame shot, and in that leads me to external links. And in order, those are:
* Dynaverse.Net - the Official SFC Site
* The Dynaverse Gaming Association - The non-profit organization that runs the SFC Directory services
* Official Star Trek: Starfleet Command game webpage
* Starfleet Command at the Star Trek Gaming Wiki
* Starfleet Universe, Your #1 source for Starfleet Command
Then
User-created models
* TOS and TMP era models at The Ark, Home of Atrahasis. Still updated with new releases as of 2008.
* TOS era models at Lord Schtupp
* Various era models at Mars Station
* Ships section has pre-TOS, TOS models at Planet Mudd
* Various era models at Star Yards
* Various era models at Feral Yards
* Large model section at StarFleet Universe
* Massive collection of user-made models at BattleClinic
So Battleclinic is way down the line in just simple research, but Dynaverse is listed towards the beginning of almost any search. A big repository of stuff here mirroring what's elsewhere really makes a lot of sense simply if we're looking to bring in new people. I'd personally also like to see the Demos up here as well for people to download and play (if they aren't already, haven't honestly checked).
If we're looking to have the game continue on for much longer, we're going to need to bring in new meshers and texturers, look at new ideas, and encourage the people that we do still have to keep working on things. Otherwise, you just get this old decayed building with seniors tottering around talking about the good old days and eventually all dying off. That's the way it goes..
So yeah.. my vote (such as it is) would be to collect and mirror everything here, if Frey is willing to do so..
