Did a little research (before lighting off the private display) and it turns out that within our city's limits, anything with a fuse is a no-no. Yep, sparklers, too. Didn't stop me, but last time I encountered such a ban we could go to the fairgrounds' parking lot and light off whatever. Really depressing, as I am used to hearing pops and bangs and all the whatnots well into the early morning. The few rebels like myself died out around 11 (!!) and been quiet since.
Also turns out for $50 you can get a "public display license" and in turn, do whatever in a designated area; but to do the cool show would cost at a minimum $250 on top of that! Almost better to go to a casino and play penny slots for a few hours at that price, at least I have the chance to walk out with what I went in with.
