Hi there,

After i stumbled upon my old sfcOP, i ended up at your site in search of an active community.
I tend to suck real hard at this game, but the idea of an online dynaverseII world with actual players commanding their spaceships, who can resist it. why this never was an awesome success... i dunno.
But, as i am a newb, i have questions. the never ending storm of newb questions

First of all, i don't remember the game being this ugly. i did set the re to 1280 with the config thingy in the main sfcop folder. but it still ain't that pretty. I'm playing it on a widescreen though, maybe that is the issue? if i compare my quality to that of screenshots, the difference is very big. maybe i can do something about that?

Patching for instance, which leads me too my second questions. Why the hell do i CTD after i select campaign in the 2.5.5.0 version? my default version is 2.5.0.0 which works fine. is this a known issue?

third question. is SFCOP still being played actively? if it is, I'm gonna get my skills up to standards and give it a try.

Install this on a base installation (no patches): http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163378640.0.html

It will update everything to the newest patch, including some other fixes and will also install some prettier models, if you wish. As always, read the fine manual before clicking through.

The enhancement pack does have lots of fixes and good stuff, but I think the solution to your immediate problem is that you have to reset your campaigns files after patching. (i.e. you cannot continue an old campaign that you started before the patch because of file structure changes). So go in and delete your old campaigns and then start a new one and it should work.

I think the singleplayer campaign dbs are stored in this folder: \MetaAssets\db
Delete everything in it. Then start a new campaign.

that might be a good idea, though i did deleted the whole folder the second time i tried to reinstall and patch, but unpatched i still had my campaign info. if i rember it right. I might have to look into this.

i assume i have to do this, regardless of the patch i install? i.e. also with the patch proposed in the second post?

oh btw, will it improve the quality of the graphics? i seriously suspect my widescreen of fckng it all up.
can anyone tell me about the widescreen compatibillity?

ok, got it working though.

how stable is the lot? i got a ctd when 2 dreadnoughts blew up in my screen.

With my usual configuration on windows XP it is quite stable. But I cannot attest to stability in Vista. I use ATI drivers and let it stretch 1024x768 to 1200x800 in Vista and it comes out OK. I think the ATI driver on my windows XP partition does not have that feature though, and I get two black bars either side of the screen... I'll have to double check, but those kinds of things are video card and driver dependent (and OS). I can only attest to OP's stability in Windows XP (and older) though.

Hi. It isn't as active as it used to be, but OP is the most-played currently. There is a Dynaverse campaign, The Forge - Flat Out, going on, and people play on Gamespy Arcade, too. Are you looking for a continuing campaign or stand-alone matches? We could use more players in either!

well, i shure like the idea of an ongoing campaign. the problem is, im new to the game and dont seem to be very good at it when i read all the tactics guides. And the campaign is probably full of veterans.

and about that, on a random moment, howmany ppl are playing? if there are 10 ppl playing the campaign, thats kind of a bummer with about 9 races...

Fortunately, when people are online in campaigns, they all kind of bunch together at the empire borders... there might be 3 human players vs 3 opposing human players, which makes for a great game, even if it is only six.

Gamespy usually has 10-15 people online on Friday and Saturday nights, and it's a great way to just play around if you want to play a fun duel (or team match, for that matter).

Actually, some of the tactics seem to work a lot better especially against real players, so you never know. I was frustrated with Klingons until trying them against other people. Against human players, you can't usually just tailgate and keep shooting, so you will automatically get better by seeing what works.
