while I can understand that some will not like it (I was sceptical before I went, liked it more after).  It comes down to the same debate as we have here over SFC:OP and SFCIII.  I hate SFCIII, see nothing really good in it.  But I shall not say that it isn't a SFC game, or it killed the game.  Different tastes.

So IMHO, I don't think ST is dead, just taking a different course for the next gen.  Just like each TV series and even each movie steps in different directions from the original.  And tastes change with time also.  When I was younger I liked the new Enterprise fromthe movie sereis, but as I have gotten older, I like the TOS better.  The movie ones look sleaker tho.  I would probably have a different opinion if I started after the movies came out.  And so will be the same with this one, kids starting with this as the first trek movie they have been to, will love it and will give a boost to the younger and new people to ST.  Some of us old guys can only give the franchise 20 more years or so before we are worm food.

Interesting SFCIII analogy.  Many "hard core" SFC fans hated it.  The proponents said the game had to evolve and become fresh for a new generation.  The game is released  to claims of great success by the fans of the new game (yeah, they said it).  The old school fans claim it killed the game... where's SFC4?  The lack of an SFC4 was then blamed (by 3 fans) on the SFB/SFCers past because they couldn't evolve.  The old schoolers blamed it on the new generation who are short attention spanner, simpletons who would just move on to the next game in the blink of an eye, much like people talk about the younger generation of movie viewers who watch the big boom and flash and move on to the next spectacle.  Very interesting comparisons.  Yes, there will be another Trek movie by this crew, but it will be interesting to see what the long term staying power is.  I do find some things interesting about the new film, and am looking forward to seeing it, but just haven't brought myself to do so yet.

well, the longer you wait the less the makers get, so it isn't bad to wait.  Then the percent the theatre has to send back goes down.
