Different Style

I'm slowly learning that 3d modeling may not be for me, so, while waiting on a 55GB file transfer from one HDD to another, I whipped up this in a medium I do know.

I'll continue working on this as time permits, and don't expect to go rushing out to your local LEGO dealer and pick this off of the shelf, she's $226 and that's just so far!

1st shot is "I just did something - now what?" and second shot is looking aft - Yes that black and white colum is where the warp core will go - just a place holder (as is the redshirt) until I get more developed.

I'll admit the software is a little lacking (I would kill to have so many of the pieces I had as a kid...) and the medium is unusual, but I think you'll like where this is going.

Any tips would be welcomed. Goal was something with Fed-ish lines, something around TOS, maybe.

P.S. Temporary name is "Slick Willy", will have something more definate later on.

Antimatter pods, containment, handling and injection system (note - this is the most up-to-date picture, note the "new" warp core as opposed to the one in the other pics):

P.S. Lack of suitable "shirt" colors pushes the crew to TWoK+ eras, and the rest of the colors make it look TMP+ ish... Oh well.

P.P.S. No sacrifices, yet.

Hehe, this is so cool! I wish I had all these pieces when I was little... there never were enough gray pieces, were there?

Congradulations: TWINS!!

Inside the (port) warp nacelle, where the drive plasma comes in (red, probably will change later):

Warp plasma coils (blue). In the aft section is the exhaust manifold for getting rid of spend drive plasma (red grille):

Completed port nacelle, bottom side looking foreward:

Completed port nacelle, top looking aft:

Copy-Paste-Small change to make starbord and we have... TWINS! They're tethered at the moment by a small black part until they get installed on the full model.

Fore looking aft:

Aft looking foreward:

Closest thing I could find to a StarFleet emblem:

I've got a butt load of work to do to get the saucer started and eventually mounted. I'm thinking no turbo lifts, but there should be room for a shuttle or two. Saucers are hard when there are not very many curved pieces.

I have 3 totes filled with these tiny blocks of joy - some I wish I could use on this model, some from this model I wish that I had. This is a childhood hobby that has followed me well past the "recommended" age on the box ("8+... Woo Hoo! got that by 20 years!).

I am still exploring the option of having a 3rd nacelle atop the craft, but I am undecided at this time - I'll have to see the ship more done before I can say anything for certain.

Czar "I think the bridge will be next, followed by a shuttle craft - if I can find the right parts for the bay..." Mohab

[EDIT]
P.S. yes, those are "maintenance doors" on the side (top?) of each nacelle - they fold open for access to the innards.

P.P.S. 319.22 USD (est.) for the Twins, 628.52 USD for the entire beast as it stands right now... I have a feeling this might push past the 3k mark... and she's only about 10-20% done!

P.P.P.S. Anyone willing to make an SFC/BC/whatever version of this when it is done?

Quick add on - Wasn't happy with the 1st run on the bridge but it ended up as Aux-Con - - or a battle bridge:

Does this ap. do animation? An animated Star Trek series done in Lego would be too much. Good work, Mohab.

I did some really crude stop-action videos with the Lego moviemaker a while ago...

In this one, a Fed destroyer crew blows up some Klingons. Low-budget soundstage. (Sorry about the poor hosting service) http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=7fcfb9eddc5e0d962fb2ca15d7ea42d9e04e75f6e8ebb871

LEGO digital designer does not have animations like you'd expect, almost none, really. If I can find a *.lxf (LDD model file) to something that blender can render xfer device, I might be able to animate something. What little it can animate is rotationg pieces and hinges/rotating joints... nothing substantial.

Didn't have time for more work on this yet... but should be able to do so tomorrow.

Also, couldn't view the animation from above, probably a Win7RC's media player/VLC on Win7 issue, as I've not had problems with  .avi's before, will look again when on a different PC...

does it let you save steps? (IE so you can built it later if you get the atual parts?)
This might be a way to immortalise some of my custom creates I still have from when I was a kid so I can get rid of them/use the parts on actualy sets I have that are missing them.
