So anybody else besides me getting a three day weekend
« on: May 19, 2009, 08:45:06 pm »
Concidering Memorial day is coming up Just wondering. Iv'e allready been warned not to expect one, not even gonna get any overtime but the rest are just to make up for the extra day off.

As when they all get overtime that means a extra two or three hours worth of work cramed into eight for me,as I still have to be done by three thirty four oclock in the morning with the trash so the cleaning crew can hose down the area.

I'll also have to come in Saturday just in case, only thing about this job that sucks.

I like the job because nobody want's to hang around back there and bug, me can take my break whenever I want and when I'm done I'm done, last night I got done at two thirty in the morning and wondered around for the rest of the night, just acted like I was busy.

3.5 day holiday as I get part of Friday off as soon as the Federal employees start bugging out of the parking lot about noon-ish. They get the Friday half-day as a "safety" consideration so that they don't have to deal with holiday traffic. If I can time my exit on the coattails of the last supervisor then maybe, just maybe, I can avoid the tsunami of tourists flooding down the Parkway headed for the shore. If not then the 45 minute commutes becomes +2 hours.

Overtime? Oh I have distant memories of jobs that allowed overtime. Anything past 40 hours is considered helping out the "team". Usually after the federal teammate that caused the snafu has long since clocked out.

Got layed off "due to economic conditions", so... on Monday it will be day 61 of my "weekend"!

P.S. Would be a 3 day (F-S-S) if I still worked for the company, with 2.5x pay on Monday for working the holiday (holiday is 8 hrs whether you work or not, + 1.5 x pay for having to work on a holiday).

Well got told it's gonna be a ten hour night, which means if I do things they way im suppose to it will be a 12 hour night for me. But your nuts if you think I'm gonna stay there for twelve hours messin with the trash tonight. I'm gonna pack that trash dumpster as full as I can, will probably still wind up makeing three bails but at least I won't be staying for twelve hours.

I got your back man. After 21 years in the Casino biz schlepping drinks I made the leap to the technology field. Worked steadily for 2 year, and now in the last 6 month I've been laid off twice due to slowing business. That's 23 years of steady employment and then bam, two lay-offs ju8st like that. I have to say, my job hunting skills have seen a huge improvement curve ove the last 6 months.

On the bright side, this last lay-off lasted exactly 27 days and I'm already back to work as a systems engineer. I hope to make the move to database developer with the next 6 to 12 months.
