I have been wanting to make a ship model for a while and still haven't gotten around to it. Just for fun, I tried making a new ship design. When I try modeling, I might try this one. The outline of the design is inspired by a pronged electrical plug (pretty domestic for a pirate

). After drawing it out, it didn't seem original enough to work for a new race -- from the top, it looks a lot like the SFB Orion ships -- so I decided that it would be a new kind of Orion ship, the Corsesca-class raider, after the Renaissance polearm.

It's still in the design phase, so please offer any ideas or suggestions.

nice work evolving a plug into a ship, very "atolmian" of you

I'd further the design process just a bit more to make it more refined(unless you are satisfied as is... If so, then I'll just shut my yap) in the details, but the overall shape is really cool

Thanks! I do want to keep working on the shape, like having the wings swoop back or making the main hull less "bulky."

I remember a cool ship design with a model made from sink parts and other things, was that yours?

Thanks! I saw your "beginning modeling" thread and it helped me out, too. I am going to try Gmax because of the free factor and low system requirements.

This is darned fun! Just playing around so far, getting the general shape. There's probably a way to get the blue cylinders to angle so they connect with the cone...

I'm sure you could angle the base so it could aligin correctly with the cone.

It's rough so far, mostly where some shapes overlap. I haven't learned how to cover any drawn-in lines with a surface, so everything now is made by moving and copying pre-made boxes, cylinders, and cones. The design has changed a little, but I'm still going to play around with it... any thoughts on how to refine it?

The biggest problems now seem to be getting the soft areas around the base of the nose to be smoother, with less obvious overlaps. I don't know what a good color scheme would be, either...
