Audio suggestions for the dull commute?
« on: May 12, 2009, 11:06:50 pm »
I've been doing the same 45 minute commute for 10 years now; but with the wondrous advancement of technology even my plain vanilla Civic could become a welcome environment again with the addition of a new GPS that has an SD card input and audio/pic/mpeg playback ability.

Question is what can I listen to (other than music) and where can i get it? All suggestions welcome but for safety reasons anything too video intensive is the cutoff point (porn especially). I was leaning towards instructional audio, maybe for programming, or audio books. Has to be someone out there in Dynaverse with experience in this sort of thing.

You could try downloading various podcasts.  They are free, and you can find ones to suit whatever your interest is.

Get yourself a copy of Be Bop Deluxe's "Axe Victim", blast it as you go through the gate at Ft. Monmouth, and maybe one of the older gaurds will remember when he first heard it  ;D

Of course, he'd have to be really old..I was there in '74 at the SATCOM school

Good suggestion with the podcasts and I actually found one of those MS webcasts that was  informative (wish I  had time to play around with some of that stuff). Problem is the volume is just to weak on the GPS, going over 20mph the roadnoise is too much for the external speaker and can't overcome the static using FM mode.

So looks like I'll only be able to use this when I'm stuck in Friday-nite shore traffic. Still, I keep looking for pod & webcasts. Thanks for the suggestions.

And Mike, BeBop Deluxe? They the grandfather's of the Cowboy Bebop animators or what?
