I have a router and both my windows boxes are behind a hub as well, AND the XP box has the firewall always on.

HOWEVER

All that crap gets unplugged and/or turned off when I go on the D2.  I even run my game rig right off the cable modem.
I was never here, you were never here, this conversation never took place, and you most certainly did not see me.

I still use XP.

As far as the ports.
Just make sure you will forward and permit  the following:

permit tcp any any range 2300 2400
permit udp any any range 2300 2400
permit tcp any any eq 47624 log
permit udp any any eq 47624 log

If you do not know how to do it some crapy routers have a DMZ mode which forwards all ports.
If not then  RTFM.

I beleive that there are still people willing to play.
The problem is that there is none willing to host.

 :(

I was kidding, Malak.

Well sh*t. We are f*cked. I cant see asking everyone to run their comps on older OS's. So till SFCOP gets a facelift in the OS and Connection stability department, this is dead. What a shame too... This game f*cking rocks.

So was I.

If battles can be fought on gamespy, with a bit of creative book-keeping and planning a campaign can be run I'd think. It wouldn't be pretty but it could be done (if some feel the dyna troubles are too much to deal with)

What if we all play on the same side against one uber enemy?  Alas it could be the ISC, quite enhanced, or a whole new shiplist of beasties.  We would fly for our empires, but would be allied and cooperate in self interest.

OK, I'll play the ISC. You guys can only attack me Kung Fu style though.  ;D ;)

I still have a couple XP machines and would enjoy some SFC. It's been a long while. I have a router, but I know how to get by it without any trouble. Was considering trying to find a game last night on Gamespy, actually. Then I remembered my last visit there with a stranger and decided to watch a movie, instead.

However, even a very informal league here with games played on Gamespy could likely get my ass out for some SFC games.

I still miss the league we started up, in truth. Was a blast. Payne? DeadmanSix? Whoo? Any of you old bastards still around?

I had some ideas a few months back for a real "Strategic" league.  With all these names popping out of the wookwork maybe we might be able to pull this off . . .

I'd be up for that.

We'd really only need 8 players to do this -  less if it's a GW campaign with no ISC.   Though with the smaller player base it’ll an all-races server might be the way to go.   Why exclude anyone’s favorite?

Read that thread that I linked for t00l, we could setup a “normal” D2 server so the bored could fly whenever they want with 50-DV hexes.   Include my whacky idea for “sector assaults” that’ll give you winner-takes-all battles that are resolved separately (see http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163381516.0.html for the details).  In a non-GW server I’m thinking EQUAL economies at start and one fleet, much smaller than the whole shebang of F&E and a lot easier to manage

Each RACE (NOT side) would need a leader, to set production schedules and make the strategic determination of the attack/defense in the sector assaults.  Possibly even make diplomatic decisions and have shifting alliances?

What kinda time table for the game are we looking at? 4 week server? 1 week per era server? Restart after each era with a new map showing new ownership/progress, essentially 4 servers... What?
