Since Battlestar Galactica is one of my favorite shows....
« on: March 15, 2009, 10:44:34 am »
..i decided to try my hands on the old bucket. standart version will be at about 7000 polies - version with ribbing etc will be at about 12000 polies.
not my usual - as low as possible - but i didnt think galactica would eat polies like this.
however - its still in the works. will need some more days to finish detailing - texturing will be a pain in the rear too.

Ed :)

btw - could someone give me a link to a working download of coxxons galactica ?- the 3 galactica models on battleclinic are not coxxons versions. id like to use it for texture reference. its easier to have something to look at that you can twist and turn instead of looking on 2d schematics.

here is the link to the original Coxxon BSG fleet releases at SFM they are in 3ds format and you would have to reattach the textures to the models as some models originally had tga's applied.

Impressive work Dogfighter.  As WZ said, you must be a mad man to tackle such a complex model.  I made a Galacitca type Battlestar a while back and I was lucky to get it just over 5000 polys.  Your model looks much more complex then mine, but as I feared, the Galactica type Battlestar is just one complex beast of a model.  I told people a little while ago that you will be lucky to get it below 5000 polys, not without cutting out detail.  At least the Mercury Class Pegasus is a little easier to handle.

But, I will say that you got a great model in the works there.   :coolsmiley:

thanx folks :)  there is a lowpoly version in the works as well. however i wanted to finish this higher poly galactica first. 12000 is a limit i hope to stay on. however - its quite possible to come out higher. all those ribs eat alot of polygons. i left them onesided to keep polies low. its not realy noticible on them odel sinse they are very close to the surface ot ship. the version of the mesh without ribbing is pretty much completed. i tried to keep the form as simple as possible to have enough polies left for the details.
damn - modeling this ship is quite exhausting. but the mesh is close to be finished.
