Looking for a Class M planet...
« on: February 16, 2008, 03:29:20 pm »
Anybody know where to find this planet? It was last used when Pataflafla was working on the FASA Northampton Class cruiser.

I'd like to use this with I, Mudd's planet template.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Fallen_Warrior,

In your planet pack the class-m 8.bmp is close but not it.

Still looking...

The closest planet might be Atheorhaven's recently released artificial ringed planet.

If you want, I can either strip off the rings of wulf111's, or else map the textures to one of Mudd's planets (which may be better long term).

And it was intended as a Class M planet, yes..

Atheorhaven,

I would like you to try that with I, Mudd's template. My version stretches the textures too big...

In the meantime, I'd still like to find the above planet. Star Trek Australia and Wolf359 don't seem to have the pictured planet. We need more variety in planets in general.

One MAJOR problem with some of the new planets right now is that not all of them have a day AND a NIGHT side.

So my planet collecting criteria involves that the planet must have a night side as well as cool textures.

Two problems with the NASA images though..

a) The Earth images that exist there are very recognizably Earth.. good if you're doing Earth, not so good if you're doing a generic M type planet.  :)

b) The Big Blue Marble data, which is probably the best source for modellers, I don't think has a day and night combined image.. they have a day (lit) map of the entire surface, and a night map of the same.  I know because I used it in the past.

There are ways to do up a nice map.. I'll see what I can do up for a tutorial.  :)

The Star Spangled Banner bring hither,
O're Columbia's true sons let it wave.
May the wreaths they have won never wither,
Nor it's stars cease to shine on the brave.

You might also look over at Celestia Motherlode as they have a lot of textures and the like there.

Sorry, have moved twice since, and work on ships (and this) has been delayed as a result.

I've got about 20 ships in line right now, as well as an entire planet.  :p

Will get to this one as I can..
