Google Is Fouled Up
« on: January 31, 2009, 09:06:31 am »
I'm having trouble using Google to search.  No matter what I put in for the search, every single result that comes up is blocked by Google.  When I click on a link for a site Google tells me that "visiting this site may harm your computer".  When I click on the "safe browsing guide" link all I get is an error page.  Now, I know some sites have malware on them, but somehow I just can't believe that CNN.com is going to attack my computer.  I've never had this happen before and I'd really appreciate any tips on how to circumvent or disable this feature.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

it's settings most likely you have set for google and/or your computer. I have no problem with Google on my end, with any site.

It appears that google.com is having trouble.  Since I automatically get bounced to google.ca I don't see the issue myself.

mmm, not sure what is with that. I've been googling all day from google.com without trouble. might be a wide scale, but still not "total" scale issue popping up.

It was a human Error on Google's part. It lasted about 40 minutes. (going by memory on what I read this morning.

It should be fine, and they are putting safeguards in place to make sure it doesn't happen again.

From what I saw apparently an update to a list of dangerous sites accidentally included "/" as one of the web addresses.  Any website that started http:// was automatically considered hazardous as a related address.

Maybe Google will let Microsoft steal him away from them.  :)

You do know that Microsoft and Google have a history of hiring from each other don't you?  You know that they have even had lawsuits over the issue?

Now given that history and assuming you were unscrupulous and that this individual is worth firing would you not consider shopping him to Microsoft to hurt the competition if you were his boss?

Yep, I just ran across this story this morning.  Some executive somewhere is polishing his resume.  Thanks, guys.
