Tamriel Rebuilt: Map 2 - Antediluvian Secrets
« on: January 19, 2009, 02:28:00 am »
Morrowind lovers...are there any left?

After a zillion years in cyber time they actually put something out that is playable.  But is at a stunning acheivement of a monument in futility...

Over 580 exterior cells
-Over 420 interior cells
-Over 4000 dialogue entries
-Over 650 NPCs

I'm tempted.  Putting Morrowind back together on one of my older PC's would probably take half a day in downlads, loads, etc.

Still tempted.

I know it would take some research to figure it all out.

Hmm...  Does anyone else here see the irony in this post on the SFC forums??

 :P

I, myself, have orver 300 PC games - and I still find Ultima IV as interesting (or more interesting) than any of the dumbed down console ports that hit the PC these days..

In fact - some PC games I get merely to play the mods - I've yet to even play the Max Payne 2 storyline yet - with the Matrix and Equlibrium movie mods I've added to it.

Granted, I am an eclectic personality, but quality is quality - I find far too many people these days who ignorantly discount older games - only to be disappointed again and again by the new ones...

Now if I could just get my wife to understand this - then I'd be golden!

Man I would play Ultima IV -VII.2 ahead of NWN2 any day of the week. Those games rocked.

Same with Wasteland, the old Bards tales/Buckrogers/AD&D gold box.

They new how to tell a story then.

Morrowind is of course a towering giant of a game.  It’s sequel, Oblivion, received some of the same criticisms that NWN2 received and while they have improved on Oblivion to some degree I think NWN2  really covered the most ground from it’s initial release to its current state.

Thus I don’t know if I would put NWN2 in the current tradition of a “dumbed down” current game.  I think it’s pretty good if you take into account the expansion and the, especially after Mask of the Betrayer (an outstanding sequel) and SOZ (which adds Ultima style overland map).

Granted some portion of the NWN1 community stayed behind and continue to do the hate thing against NWN2 (mostly because the new toolset is harder to use than the old one).  But the user made mods that come out now are pretty good … more than good, ground breaking. (Try Subtleties of Thay) and if you haven’t kept up with the state of the NWN2 art your missing out.

My own concerns are the future of the D&D world in general as WotSC is pretty much doing a re-write on the D&D world and may be dumbing down the fundamentals of the game themselves with the 4th edition rules.  But that’s another matter.

Well, I think I’ve now psyched myself up to trying this huge mod out.
