I checked around, but had no luck. There must be something out there though.

i asked the SFB makers and they told me that they even don't have one and paint the words by hand for the pics and renders.  :-[

I seem to recall Adam Turner telling me the same thing. I would like to see even a hand drawn example of the Hydran alphabet. It's simple enough to hand draw on textures, even without a true font.

Actually, if we had an example I think Major Racal can make fonts, IIRC?

Only alphabet I've seen is what is on the old painting guides.   Yet there was a Captain's Log article that dicussed Hydran ship names and Hydran culture, history, etc...  It might have an alphabet listed.

I looked around, and I thought it was in a Captains Log, it isn't, but there is Nexus #12 which has a list of Hydran ship names.  Yet I'm damn certain there was a CL with Hydran ship' names in it.   I also look in GURPS products, and there is a complete right up of Hydrans in Module Prime Alpha, but no alphabet.   You may just have to wait till they make a GURPS Hydrans Prime Directive book.

There is a site that might allow you to build one for private use..

Looks promising for those Hydran fonts..

I've sent an email off to Adam Turner. If anyone, besides SVC, would know if there was a defined Hydran alphabet, Adam should. I'll wait and see.

Thanx Rod and we will see what you get as answer.

i used the pic of the early CA on the Y1 module cover and the symbols on the paintguides as base to hand paint some markings on my models texture
here is a preview of it:

http://www.starfleetgames.com/miniatures.shtml

I'm sure the above link has been posted before, but for those who are interested in what Starfleet Games recommends for painting their miniatures.

http://www.starfighter-decals.com/federation-commander-decal-sets.html

Also found this.  The Hydran stickers have a bunch of symbols on their certainly enough to make an alphabet of some sort, but it is setup on the site to not read very well, you could send off for a set of decals and have alook yourself.

I'd sent this over to KF in email.. my guess (sigh, put your geek blinders on for the faint of heart).. is that the alphabet may be based on something like the Alphabet of Lugano, which was derived from Ancient Etruscan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Italic_alphabet
𐌀     𐌄     𐌉     𐌊     𐌋     𐌌     𐌍     𐌏     𐌐     𐌓     𐌔     𐌕     𐌈     𐌖     𐌅     𐌗     𐌆
A        E        I        K       L       M       N      O       P       R       S       T        Θ      U       V       X        Z

17 characters, which appears to be what's in Hydran.  There's also the possibility that the allphabet uses joined sounds like th and et.

Wikipedia is a good thing.. I'd suggest starting somewhere like this to try and decipher the Hydran script that may have been put out in the game material in the past.  Once deciphered, it should be relatively easy to do up a font based off this.

So, here's the "written Hydran language".

Since the Hydrans aren't really humanoid, it's unlikely that their language would have the same phonemes as any real world tongue.  It isn't reasonable that their characters should be mapped to phonetic equivalents.  Even if someone has made up a language for them, the characters might as well be mapped in a logical convenient system disregarding the qwerty layout, like Dan Smith's Tengwar fonts.

Well Hydran everything is based on 3's.   So you would assume that the phonetics, grammar, etc. would as well.

Problem with the decal jpg, is that we can't see most of the white lettering.

There isn't any white font. Those are just some sort of rendering artifacts.

Are you sure there aren't white letters in addition to the black letters?  I didn't see them at first, but once it was pointed out, they don't look like random copy or rendering errors.

edit: After downloading the image and blowing it up, I can see that the white letters are just repetitions of the black letters.
