Illumination Map problems on two ships... can anyone help?
« on: January 07, 2009, 08:15:46 pm »
I've been trying to get the two Romulan ships posted at Battleclinic (see this post: http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163365597.0.html) to work in SFC2.  They play fine, but even though there are illumination textures with them, they're not showing up in the game.  Anyone got a fix?

Thanks,

DT

Mr. Thought, try importing the model into Milkshape and see if the illumination texture is called for in the texture menu. If not, that is your problem, it may be setup for SFCI

The imaps are NOT grey scaled they wont show up as color in sfc if they are still color maps and they dont seem to be applyed to the model. Looking at it through m6/sfced .

I don't know about the color issue.  They show up fine in the Model Viewer.  I've seen lots of models with colored light maps that seem to work just fine.

All you have to do is assign the light maps in Milkshape or whatever you use.  Since there are only two, it is quite easy.  The readme credits ModelsPlease, so if you can't do it yourself, just ask him.

I got the existing illumination maps to work, with color, using MilkShape.  As suggested, they weren't actually assigned.

First time I've used MilkShape on anything resembling a modern PC... worked a lot better than I remembered!  Thanks to all for the advice!

Yeah, the only problem is some models will crash the program.  It's not even always due to high-poly models.  There are a few old models from SFC1 I tried to illuminate that made Milkshape die.  Most of Atra's and WZ's ships crash, even when the models aren't really that big or complex.  3D Studio Max may be a more powerful program, but it's also more difficult to use for casual kitbashers.

Very true, however even casual kitbashers can learn to use MAX.  Just getting a version of MAX that can work directly with SFC models is a pain.  Well, used to be.  GMAX now has working SFC plugins.

I personally found Milkshape very difficult to work with, but that's just me.
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.
