Hi All,

I have a model I've been working on, kit-bashing (no textures yet), and I need help converting it to .MOD format.  I know this ought to be simple, but I stepped in a big pile of dumbass on the way over.  It's currently available in STL, DXF, LWO, 3DS and G_d knows what else, just not MOD.

I have 3ds Max 9 and can't seem to get the exporter to work.  I also have gmax and MilkShape, neither of which are working for me.  I'd appreciate it if someone could help.  I'd be happy to email it to some enterprising soul.  Thanks in advance.

FWIW, yes, I plan on releasing it to the wild when it's ready.

When it comes to 3DS MAX, you need version 3, 4, or 5 in order to import/export MOD files.

GMAX has working plugins for MOD files.  Look at one of the stickied threads here in this forum.
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.

I've managed to allegedly get it to MOD, but ModViewer refuses to open it, so I can't check it. I don't have enough experience to troubleshoot this.

Sometimes you have problems with Milkshape if you have too many groups. Same with the mod viewer.

After a few pointers from Armando I've made some progress.  I now have three versions of the model:

10K poly, based exclusively on pre-existing SFC meshes
22K poly, mostly like above, but with an original, hi-res secondary hull
40K poly, pre-existing impulse deck, nacelles, saucer riser; original secondary, pylons, neck, saucer, extended deck, rollbar

Personally I'd like to use the hi-res, because it's mine and I think it looks good, but I realize that would likely choke the game.  Regardless, anyone interested in texturing it?
