TV Series: B5

Games: Trek. Hands down. More variety, more of them, etc. etc.

Fanon: Either way. Although there is much more to choose from in Trek, B5 has its advantages here.

The Women: Gates, Majel (RIP), Terry and Jerri = Trek Foxes. On the flip side you've got Claudia. For reference (No Majel here out of respect for the recently departed, but still... Gene was a lucky guy):

or or vs.

Tough call there.

Technological explainations: Trek loses due to Treknobable.

Ships: Trek has variety, B5 has numbers. Tie.

Stations: Long Tube vs. Steering wheel. Steering wheel can move on its own, so Trek gets the point.

Cost: ~$1300 to own all of Trek on DVD vs. ~$400 for all of B5 on DVD. B5 all the way (yes, I know I can DVR the reruns, but its not the same...)

Story Telling Ability: B5 finishes its story after 5 seasons. Trek does it in an hour or two. Occasionally (Xindi, Dominion War, Voayger's trip home) it takes longer, BUT 1 hour vs 5 years... Trek gets this one.

Movies: B5. Trek's movies continue the story after the series is over. B5 movies compliment the series as it goes. More Trek movies, but B5 has quality over quantity. B5 wins this one

Acting ability: Generally a toss up, but for this I look to Andreas Katsulas. No matter in Trek or on B5, this guy was the poo. I hold the acting ability of all the casts to him. In general, it is a Trek-5 tie, but Andreas tips the scale to B5.

Repeat watchability: Trek. There's so much here that 10 times through everything is no where near enough to remember it all. Some points to B5 due to the storyline. "Fasten, zip" ring a bell?

Can I be in the show?: Trek gets this one with Star Trek: The Experience. Never went myself, but from what I understand, you were there on the -D when poo went down. Otherwise it is a tie due to conventions, games, books, fanon, etc... But don't forget the plethora of extras that were cast between the two. You really could be on either show (assuming production was still going).

Looks Like I have a Trek-5 tie. I just like them both in their own ways.

What I don't like is poorly done You-Tube films about crossovers. Blech. They're always too biased towards whatever the creator favors instead of being an honest appraisal of what would/could happen, given facts stated in both series (in one, a Sovergn class goes unapposed Vs. B5 itself... um... defence grid, anyone? Not pointing fingers at a "winner" in that duel, but give B5 a chance, seriously... but in the flick, no shots fired from the station at this attacker-ended with Feds FTW, BTW).

Actually B5 vs Trek in a fight would be Trek all the way because none of the B5 ships except the baddies in the B5 Thirdspace movie had shields. None of them had transporters either (transporter bombs anyone?).

Most forums I frequent frown upon Vs threads... for the reason that they devolve mostly into shouting wars between the fans.

Like the argument that B5 could take down a Sovereign. TNG fans would point to Picard laughing at laser weapons against the Enterprise in one episode to refute the family of laser cannons from ever affecting any kind of TNG+ vessel.

But then the B5 fans would come back with organic technology in spaceships and having hyperspace, which would be undetectable to Trek devices.

Then there's the issue of First Ones Versus Q.

Who would win? I suppose it depends on which fandom is bigger. Since this is a Star Trek thread, I'd expect the outcome here to be Star Trek. It would be B5 on a B5 forum.

I really don't want to sound like a geek and get into this, but Organic technology in B5 seems to do what shields do in ST.  Also, while hyperspace would not be detectable to Trek ships, Subspace would not be detectable to B5 ships.  Also, Star Trek's FTL seems to be more flexible as it can be mounted on small shuttles.  In B5, the smallest ship capable of initiating its own jump point is the White Star.  In terms of weapons tech based on stated yields, first ones would be a match for the late 23rd early 24th century Trek races.  While TNG pales compared to B5 in terms of storyline, The later spinoffs make up for it.

It doesn't matter who wins...I've learned that in VS. threads that everyone always loses.

Joshua got it right, the only winning move is not to play.

Maybe, but then I can't paint my face and declare holy war against the B5 blasphemers..
