An OS written in Java?!
« on: December 15, 2008, 07:38:50 pm »
Holy doodoo Batman!  :o

http://www.jnode.org/

I found this today in my wanderings. I'm shocked, appalled, incredulous... I always said, you'll never see an operating system written in Java. I guess I have to eat my words now.

Here's the hitch though:

JNode is a free, open source Java technology based operating system implemented in the Java language with a very small assembler nano-kernel.

Ha! Gotcha!  ;D  So the key piece of the OS is not written in Java. I'm not sure it would even be possible to write a kernel in java... it's giving me brain cramps thinking about it.

Java, just like C#, should never be used to create a true stand-alone OS, imho.

I'm no programmer, let alone an OS programmer but from my understanding of such things here is a
flash video
that presents my opinion.

(Note I have not viewed the entire 7 meg video but it should be work safe) based on the source used for the music I've heard and the video I saw.  So view at your own risk.  :)
