Agent Recovery
« on: November 28, 2008, 12:02:48 am »
OK, found my SFCOP disk, fresh install, running OP Enhancement 5.1.  Running the solo Beast Masters campaign in OP+ mod with an MCT file I had from somewhere that included the NW, TracyG and EEK missions.  I've run into the Agent Recovery mission twice now flying a B-CA0/Early era. The first time I got lucky, beam over the agent and blew *everything* still alive at that point away, and... it's a draw?!?

Oookay...   Second attempt later on. Escorts this time pretty much suck, so I double up the engines and blow by the advance ships leaving the cannon fodder to distract em.  Make a beeline for the ship with the agent, capture is and immediately swap over to that one as the AI takes my ship and turns back. (Bah!) Manage to run the captured frigate w/ agent off the map.  Get back in my ship just in time to keep it in one piece, but pretty much have to run it off as well.  Mission ends, and it's a draw again?

Mission briefing says "there is an agent on one of the patrol vessels around this outpost. Whatever else happens is irrelevant, the only important factor is that this agent survive the mission in our hands. Good luck!.

what am I doing wrong?

Mission is Met_NWRecovery.scr

I thought I would tell Spartan 159 this forum is for online Dynaverse play not single player for better results it is best to post it in the StarFleet Command Forum.I never figured out how engine doubling works anyway just look for the ship with agent onboard.

Thanks for the pointer.  Yeah, I am doing the obvious and it's not working, and engine doubling is easy. Hit the button, watch the power spike up, start burning repair parts like mad.

I've only beat this mission one or two times, and that was years ago.  I think the mission has been broken even more, since then.  What I did was find the ship with the agent, beam him onboard, kill the other ships, without destroying the LP, kill a lot more ships comming into the game, and run off the map.  I think I have a later version of the mission now, and I can't beat it.

BTW, How is one supposed to win "Investigation?"  That is the one with the two planets, one you have to scan, and the other that will attack you if you scan it.  "Negotications" is another I have trouble with.  I guess I don't need to mention, "Recharge."

There are two types investigation missions the one you are talking about is just scanning the 2 planets and destoying the enmy ship.I have never been attacked if so attack it first and see in the capture panel how many are left then get in range to do the scan.I could never get those other 2.

Investigation: When the mission starts go to overhead view either have nothing targeted or toggle camera lock off, you will see the planet ID tags.  If you see Ph on the tag then you're in for fun.  Usually there is also another ship on the far side of one of the planets, may or may not be hostile.

Deal with the other ship first if need be, then scan the non phaser planet.  Take the opportunity to grab the 8 spare parts.  The phaser planet treat as a planet assualt. Bombard the thing from range with shield reinforcement to the facing shield, if you don't have drones it may take a while. Once you've done enough internal damage to take out most of the phasers move to about the range of 20 and try to scan.  Most of the Phaser planets have 12 x Ph 4 (2 FH 4 LS 4 RS 2 RH)  I do not recall ever seeing a homeworld in that mission.

Alternately you can shutdown as much as possible and do a flyby with max reinforcement to the facing shield, get your scan then run like hell. In the 18-25 range a phaser 4 will do 4 points max damage, min 0 (4,3,2,1,0,0) ECM is your friend.

You *may* need to be closer but not by much if so, I will have to check next time I get this mission.
