Still a W.I.P. SFB style FCX
« on: November 17, 2008, 06:07:22 pm »
I don't know if anyone remembers, but a while ago I posted pics of Adam Turner's hires SFB FCX, and proudly pronounced that I was going to do a lowpoly version for SFC. Well, I have it about 90% done. The power supply for my outboard HDD has died and I'm having difficulty replacing it. Until I do, it's locked up where I can't get to it. Here's some pics of where it's at. Like I said, it's close to being done.

My skills aren't great on TMP aztecing and texturing in general. Part of the reason it's been slow going. I'm learning as I go on what looks good and what doesn't.

The nacelles strike me as being too low and too far out from amidship for me, but im being picky. I love the nacelle design.

I just saw it, but your saucer needs more details and darker gridlines...

Maybe a bit less contrast in the aztecing to make the grid lines stand out more, but they seem pretty distinct to me, and it has more detail than TOS version.

The only critique I can come up with is the distortion in the texturing on the bottom of the saucer, but he said it is a WIP.

The nacelles are a bit lower than the TOS model. That's to allow for the 180° side phaser arcs for the CX compared to the 120° on the Connie. Not sure about the width. They do align with the reference model as they are though.

I don't want anyone to think that I don't appreciate everyone's comments, but hearing from an "old master" warms the soul. Thanks.

I do tend to get some of the details like that a bit softer than most others make them. Probably because I'm working with render resolutions rather than in game resolution. I can darken the details a bit.

The only critique I can come up with is the distortion in the texturing on the bottom of the saucer, but he said it is a WIP.

I projection mapped the saucer. Maybe I should relax the UVs a bit on the lower decks because of the fairly steep angle of the lower decks on the saucer? I don't want to twist the grid lines though. I'll look at it, when I get hold of the model again to see if it can be worked a bit. Possibly apply the windows and phasers in 3D mode. I just got photoshop CS4 extended. That might be the best fix.

The crazy saucer underside reminds me of Starship Museum's Hyperion. Not sure what to make of it.

The engines are cool, though the twizler buzzard collections make me think of Tiberius Shipyard's Mirror universe fleet. *Waves fist at I, Mudd for loosing those awesome ships*.

Kuods to the registry on the side of the secondary hull :)
