Is is possible to use a particular space model in a mission script? Say with a sun dead center of a large map? (Hint: see avatar)

you mean using a space backdrop as the ring and then have a sun in the middle?  if so then no, as the backdropss are completely random, unless you replace them all w/ the same one.

Ah, good thought, for what I'm thinking of that might just work fine.

Suggestion:

If you're replacing all your backgrounds with the ring, I'd also look at replacing your sun mesh with a sun mesh that has your shadow panels attached to it.  So the mesh will "create" light and dark areas on the Ringworld..

Excellent suggestion, that would work nicely. This is quite a ways off, but I'm stewing it over in me head in the background, I think a Niven's Ringworld themed server could be a fun diversion.
