In what might be a glimpse of things to come in Windows 7, Microsoft is asking customers whether they would prefer to have instant access to a limited selection of applications.

The concept isn't exactly new: Asus and Dell have produced laptops that provide swift access to apps and data using Linux subsystems. Now it seems Microsoft is intent on offering such a facility itself.

ASUS has for a while been selling motherboards that can boot from a preinstalled Linux that can play media, get E-Mail, browse the internet and I think some light word processing.  Now it appears Microsoft views that as a threat or opportunity and is considering doing the same.  I'll be curious as to just how much actual "Windows" is in the "Instant on Windows" and how long it takes to come to market.

I believe truth and principle do matter. If you have to sacrifice them to get the results you want, then the results aren't worth it.
