Antivirus and starbase 777
« on: October 12, 2008, 04:00:08 pm »
I have been trying to get ahold of Antivirus for about a month now. I saw and downloaded his Starbase 777, but everytime I try to convert it to .3ds, Milkshape crashes.
I am making an addon for the 3D space sim Celestia. Located at http://shatters.net/celestia/ , the Celestia forum located at http://www.shatters.net/forum/ , and the Celestia Motherlode, located at http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/index.html .

I would love to get ahold of the 3ds file with textures applied.
I would also seek his permission to make it avaliable on the Motherload (link above)
If you would like to see some of my addons there, look under "Fictional", "Star Trek", then look for the ones by "fungun".

Thanks
Tim

You can try GMax listed above it is also free and can handle more polies than MS can

Keep in mind though, even when you've got the model ported, you still need his permission to really do anything with it in terms of public use.

At least I believe he listed himself as requiring permission from him in the permissions thread.

However, I could be wrong.  But, when in doubt, get permission.

You also might want to try old buzzard who worked with him on that starbase. At the very least he might be able to get you a lead on how to contact Antivirus. I have not seen AV around here for sometime now, but you Might find him at Bridge Commander Central

Already contacted Old Buzzard.
Ok I went and got gmax, but can't do anything with it.
Except export it back to mod or nif, or save it as a gmax file. >:(
Have searched now for about 2 hours looking for other ways of exporting with not much luck.
Any other suggestions you guys may have?

Thanks
Tim

Since he Downloaded it that would make it a MOD or a NIF file, depending if he got it from the SFC or BC sites

Fungun

My apologies for not responding sooner.  I just don't stop by here that often.  I have been playing WoW until recently (taking a break waiting for XP to come out) and I'm watching STO development news.

here is my fav toon  (should be getting a model of him soon) .   I've been limited to the amout of time I have for PvP but it's still a lot of fun....  http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Uldaman&n=Buzztuttaman

I also have been attempting to get in touch with AV.  I have him on my MSN account ..  but it appears he has just not been on line or not at the same time I have.

In any case ...  the copy of the 3-ds I have has problems as well.  I'm not sure what happened but it is not any good.  Since the time I came up with that design .. (AV did the mesh, and the initial BMP files for me to texture) ..  my own skills to properly design a mesh have matured.  IMHO the best thing to do would be to do a remake of the model.  There were a couple of things that needed to be redone and this would be a good opportunity to redo them.

If you can get someone to help unfold the model on BMP files for me and converted to the MOD ( so I can see what I'm doing) then I will be glad to redo this one ... make some much needed improvements  and do the textures.  As I understand it there are a couple here that can help with the light maps  (I'd like to have a hand in that if possible)  and can redo the hard points and the break model.

I also have the USS Alabama and Iowa BB's nearing readiness for textures if anyone is interested.  ( I kinda put those on hold since most everyone lost interest in them).

Guys, how does one do this exactly?
Never heard of doing this procedure before.
Thanks

It deals with mapping and remapping.  I can't do it either.

Basically Cent has the Jest of it
What it is is mapping the polygons of the mesh by unwraping them from the mesh to a 2D surface the textures. Once you have done that you basically draw on those mapped areas to make the model look the way you want it to. You also would adjust them on the 2D sheets at this point for sloped areas or curved areas. Not exactly a easy thing to do, and it is at this point were ppl have the most problems.

Understood.

If anyone can help with this let me know.  The new SB777 will be a model that the community can use as needed.

I also have a couple of other model  (ie: USS Alabama  Fed BB) ;  USS Iowa (can also be used as USS Missouri as they are of the same class) as well as a Klingon BB.  I can do the textures once the models are unwrapped.

Thanks

AV!

For what ever it is worth it is good to hear from ya buddy.  I am truly sorry to hear about the melt down.  If ya get the chance to talk on MSN some time please feel free to chat.  And as for modeling ..  If ya want to help that would be super.  If not ..  that's cool.

BTW...  you should see the new star base ..  I think you would approve !
