The Scan Toaster connects to a PC over USB and downloads everything from local weather conditions and the current time to the morning’s news headlines.

Inside the toaster is a network of toasting “modules”, each heated by a hot wire. Each module can move by 30° and, once the user selects what they want on their toast - excluding a topping, of course - the modules align themselves and burn the appropriate content onto the bread.

The appliance is a finalist in design competition run by manufacturer Electrolux and designer Sung Bae Chang said he got the idea whilst - you guessed it - making some toast.

Fortunately.

I believe truth and principle do matter. If you have to sacrifice them to get the results you want, then the results aren't worth it.

I don't see it being successful for personal use, but I could see restaurants using the technology to make a little extra money buy placing paid ads on your toast.

Might be profitable for the early adapters. Burn a few images of Jesus or some Saints onto the bread of your choice, snap a picture and post the slice on EBay for bid.

Of course the novelty and the EBay market for sainted bread should collapse soon thereafter. But maybe Valentines messages or Season's Greetings on morning toast might survive to be a yearly gimmick. I would get a laugh putting my face on a slice of toast with an "Eat Me" message for Valentine's Day. Give the wife a whole new take on Breakfast in Bed.
