Hey Scott!
Doing well. Working at Carfax doing Java in an Extreme Programming (XP) environment.
It's a great place to work.
Hope all is well with you. Are you still with Dave (I love myself) Perry's group?
Later,
Dave
Oh sweet, everyone knows Carfax.
Dave "I like to pretend I'm a rock star even though I just make games" Perry was already long gone from Shiny by the time I left. Being the hell of a guy that he is, he bailed on us on the eve of Atari's difficulties while mumbling something about how he was going to help us from afar. Yeah. If by "help" he meant releasing fake press stories about vaporware Earthworm Jim games so that potential legal problems would force us to cancel our own EWJ game, on which I was leading, then thanks so much Dave Perry. If you're not busy later maybe you can kick me in the face.
Atari sold off their studios and we ended up going to Foundation 9 to do Golden Compass. I left while they were still working on that one. Since then they've assimilated the Collective (turnabout is fair play, I suppose) and now they're a giant game development army called... something I can't remember.
I took a few months off after that just to chill out and weigh my options. I tried the game industry again but my heart just wasn't in it. i didn't mind those hours when I was 26. But at 35, overtime can bite my shiny metal ass. So about six months ago I got a gig at a securities trading firm. I do a mix of financial analysis (predict the future of banks) and systems that revolve in some way around bond trading. It's boring but I'm outta' there at 2:30 and they've never even heard of nights or weekends. There are a couple of IT guys in the house but I'm the only software guy, which is kinda' groovy.
Sorry to hear about the doggie. Hope the rest of the family is well.
