The page is too long to cutpaste here, but the summary is that prior to the moonshot, Von Braun noted some discrepancies on the first orbital launches, found that he couldn't immediately explain them, and thus mangled our space program till the discrepancies were resolved, and then engaged with the government and NASA a coverup over the fact the discrepancies even existed. One interesting side note was the oddities that eclipses where found to have rotation
