;D Hey folks, check out what this guy did for a 3D miniature of a FASA TMP Klingon L-24 Battleship variant:

Yes, I'd love to have this for SFC, LOL.

It's in a 3ds Max file and I've asked for a copy and permission to have it converted to SFC. Naturally, I can't do the conversion myself...

If you are open to kitbashes, consider the following:

Add a warp engine to underneath the boom.

Add two more warp engines for a SFB Style B-11.

This ship is freakin' fantastic looking! Too bad he seems reluctant to produce models for the public. I'd love to see this beast decked-out in some of WZ's superb late TMP textures as is.

Yeah, that's my model.  Glad you guys like it.  I'm reluctant to release the full model because it represents a significant financial investment.  I have a lot of respect for those with the talent to create models and it's pretty cool when these guys, doing this in their spare time, choose to release their models.

That's not the case here.  First, I'm not a modeler.  I'm the guy with the wallet and I make resin model kits as a (small) business.  See, I use a specially constructed CAD model (i.e., watertight) to grow on a 3D printing rapid-prototyper, which I use to make my molds from.  That detailing you see on the hull?  That's part of the model; it's not a texture map.  It's also very time-consuming and expensive to do.  I just don't want a model like that out in the wild.  As is, the model probably wouldn't work too well in game anyway, since they're ~20MB after converting to .mod (again, without any textures).

OTOH, I'm considering releasing a naked model that anyone else could add the appropriate texture maps to and otherwise convert for use in SFC, et al.  I actually feel this way about all of my models (currently ~a dozen Trek models).  Stripped models suitable for game use are OK, full blown ones...not OK.

If your goal is just to get the models into the game, I'd say that's reasonable.

That would be awesome, the model looks great.  The stripped down versions would be alot better for the game also.  If you have looked through the sight and seen what the guys can do with textures the stipped down model would be perfect.

Perfectly. Many quality models in BC and SFC use texture maps in lieu of about 70-80% of the details you've rendered in the raw, and I've yet to hear anyone complain. Those who feel inclined to can either dedicate the energy they invest in whining to learning how to make their own models or go and play in heavy traffic.

Justicar,

That's cool. I want this ship and the variants I've requested for SFC: OP so whatever version becomes available will be welcome.

As far as your other models, do you have a website?

was going to ask the same question.  Give a link if you have one, would love to see the resin models you do have out.

My blog is at http://scifiskunkwerks.blogspot.com/ and my Photobucket page is at http://s66.photobucket.com/albums/h256/justiciar/.  The Photobucket page gives a hint (named empty folders) of things in the pipe.  All but three models on there are mine.  Two that aren't I have explicit permission for; the third is heavily modified.  Those three are place-holders until the final, built as new, models are ready.

Mods, please let me know if this was too much and of course feel free to edit/remove the links.

Pics?

I know the L24 was released.  From the top, this two look all but identical (this has K't'inga-style paneling and a completely new bridge), but from every other angle they're markedly different.  I would be...surprised...if this was already in the wild.

IIRC there are at least 7 versions of the FASA L-24 or variations there of currently available as of 8/21/08:

1. TOS gray/purple L24 by P81
2. TMP L-24 retextured to TMP by Atrahasis available at his site, Battleclinic or Cleeve's the staryards
3. TMP L-24C with three warp engines by P81 as part of the D2 mod included in Pestalences' SFC: OP enhancement pack and at Battleclinic
4. TMP Romulan Phoenix by P81/Atrahasis as part of the D2 mod included in Pestalences' SFC: OP enhancement pack and at Battleclinic
5. Early TNG L-24 based FASA K' Mirra by Atrahasis which has Excelsior warp engines and the main hull basically flipped over
6. Late TMP/TNG era L-24 kitbash with extra armor parts from Cleeve's TNG Vorcha and K'vek classes. Also it has a 'T' shaped submarine style ventral command structure on the secondary hull. This is at SFC3 files in one of the many mods there and as a single ship listed as the IKV Komo Val
7. TOS L-24 kitbash called the "Executioner's song" which has 4 warp engines and two command booms and pods

Justicar's would make number 8! Using the L-24C and the "Executioner's song" with the Romulan textures you would add two more variants.
