Hey there m back after having problem with this new isp.

well DSL always having problem depending where you live, you might live too far from the server.

anyway my question is i have a Router and i want to know how to use multiple computers with it, i have port to connect the internet cable but if i do that i can't have access to the internet, just a network connection between the computers.

As far as I know since you have to port forward you can only have one machine playing OP.  If you can put a switch in instead of a router that would work (how I run it, cable modem, switch, router (for wireless), one machine can be on the router, and a few can be on the switch.

its not for playing sfc's.

its only for having internet on both com at the same time.

then all you should need to do is plug into it.  It will run a local network between all the machines on it (so you can transfer files and such).  And all should have access to the internet, just set your internet for an always on connection.

I can run four hardwired computers and don't know how many wireless connections.

For most routers these days, running a simple connection via DSL is to set the DSL modem into bridge mode(if it has/had routing capabilities) then enter your ISP information in the WAN setup of the router GUI (with connect automatically checked as well).

For most routers these days, running a simple connection via DSL is to set the DSL modem into bridge mode(if it has/had routing capabilities) then enter your ISP information in the WAN setup of the router GUI (with connect automatically checked as well).

hmmm can you tell me how to do that??

You'll have to connect your modem directly to one of your computers (eliminate the router completely) then connect to the modem via your browser by entering the modems IP address into the address line of the browser. Your modem manual should have the modems IP address as well as the default password somewhere in it, or on a decal on the modem itself. In the modems setup menu you should find a 'mode' page, and in that page is the setting for 'bridged mode'. Bridged mode is basically 'dumb mode' for the modem. Once thats done, reconnect your router and setup your router (via the menus- just like the modem setup) with your port forward info. My linksys BEFSR41 has all those settings on the 'gaming' tab in the setup menu. You will also need to setup the login menu with your ISP account info as the router will now log you into your ISP's network instead of the modem. Just be sure to write down the original settings of your stuff so if the new config doesn't work you can change them back to regain your internet connection (for d/l manuals and support).

Good luck, took me 4 weeks and numerous calls to my ISP as well as as a couple manuals and access to http://www.portforward.com a great wealth of router setup info.
