Anyone still buy SFB books?
« on: July 13, 2008, 09:18:02 pm »
I just picked up a bunch including Module X1R:  X-ship re-enforcements.  Very interesting.   I've found it very interesting that a lot of conversions we added on the SGO mod (I-CAX, Hydran X-light cruisers) were added EXACTLY how we converted them.   I'm also convinced that ADB will release ANYTHING to make a buck.  X-PFTs, X-Maulers (all of which were previously declared impossible before ADB saw the dollar signs) and a few others are hysterical.

It's still a good read and some of the scenarios are AWESOME.  Two have the ISC Echelon of Judgment featured.  Might be the most firepower ever gathered in one force.
Who'd thunk that Star-castling was the root of all evil . . .

Apparently, one of the ADB guys beat Frey out of a lot of poker money, hahaha.

I am looking into getting a couple of the newer ones.  I have basicly all the doomsday stuff, 'cept a few of the new ones.

I can't get them in N.Z. I used to stay up to date on all of the modules.

I started converting the non-attrition based X-ships last night to the SGO standards (50% increase on direct-fire heavies with 2-turn loading cycle, 50% increase in ESG, Phaser 1s, etc . . .) so I'm sure I'll have an "X-Ship hell" test server up after Hardcore to give these puppies a Shakedown.  I'm not sure about the X-maulers, I get a bad feeling looking at them on paper.

What's gonna be fun to see is the L-BCX take on an I-CCX with REAL pilots for each race.   The L-BCX has 4 ESG with a 7 point capacitor.   This works out to 6 "normal" ESG!   :flame:

Partial X (XP) refits are cool idea though I think the only thing that would work in SFC is the power refit and swapping Phaser 2s for Phaser 1s.

I never thought I'd say this, but would you just please stop!

You can never have too much cheese!  Besides a few ships that are just plain silly, most of the ships in the book are either . . .
A) already in the SGO mod in some form or another (I-CAX is exact for example)
B) not anymore powerful that what's already in the SGO mod (F-NCAX is a poor-mans F-CX, the F-DWX is less powerful than the F-DDX, etc . . .)
C) have FYAs that are so late you won't see them anyway (when was the last time a server ran past 2283?  The L-BCX and R-NHK both come out after 2287)
D) SGO X-ships are less cheesy than Attrition-based fleets anyway, so the more X the better!

What's even better is the newest Captain's Log have a Klingon version of the F-CS+.  Anyone remember me saying this a few years ago that ADB will release "Strike Cruisers" for all other races because the F-CS will be popular?   Mark my words, eventually we'll not only see 5/6 move cost ships for ever race but there will be an R module specifically for all the variants . . .

You're going to antagonize SVC, and further undermine Frey's negotiating position.

Seriously, guys, if you bought X1R you got your value for what you paid. If you want X1R in SFC, ADB deserves something more than "thanks".

Maybe you have a better idea what's going on, but from Frey's posting on this thread, I'm assuming that negotiations have hit some sort of road block, and one of the most prominent members of this community antagonizing SVC is not going to help matters.

ADB is simply wanting us to get things straight with Paramount before proceeding to continue our talks.

It's as simple as that.

My post was in jest, in regards to the cheese ADB has introduced:

I'm also convinced that ADB will release ANYTHING to make a buck.  X-PFTs, X-Maulers (all of which were previously declared impossible before ADB saw the dollar signs) and a few others are hysterical.

What?  A Heavy Cruiser variant of the K-AD5 is completely reasonable  ;D

I've got 4 letters that will make the Klingons have a cow and the Fed's eyes light up like kids at Christmas . . .

F-CSX  8)

The Federation still gets no official "CLX,"  I guess the DDX and DGX can be treated as such because though not quite up to CLX standards of the other races they are FAR superior to DDX ships of the other races.  The reason these ships never got the 50% photon increase was because they were already too good in their respective niche.  The F&E SITs list it as a 10 EP ship with the same combat value as the K-D5X, need to playtest how well the fight each other with the 50% photon upgrade and maybe reclassify them as Light Cruisers.   The Federation gets a DWX so they's still have a Destroyer Hull X-ship.

The Fed's HDWX is a monster, need to convert the rest of the races to see if they are just as evil  :flame:   41 power (42 for the Klingon) in a .67 move cost ship is scarry.

The K-D5WX is nice.   Extended disrupter arcs, only 4 disrupters but 4 GX racks.  I'm leaving the Extended arcs on the DX as it just makes sense as well.  Be nice to see how well this fights the F-NCAX, Z-NCAX, and the Hydrans.

Hydrans get an LMX (no Lord Commander?   Come on, 9 fusions would be funny as hell!).  With the SGO modifications that 3 helebore, 6 Fusions, 6 StingerX fighters.  The X-Mohawk makes more sense than the ranger as it's easier to like up the fusions when all FA.  Same with the Iroquois X, only 2 fighters but the all FA hellebores can be nasty as it will be easier to get them all on target.
