Anyone going to be in Denver this August?

DEMOCRATS THROW OPEN DOORS OF CONVENTION,
OBAMA TO ACCEPT PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION ON
CLOSING NIGHT OF 2008 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION
IN FRONT OF A CROWD OF MORE THAN 75,000
Final Day of Convention Program to Move to Denver's INVESCO Field at Mile High
DENVER - Breaking the mold of traditional political Conventions, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today announced that Senator Barack Obama will accept the Democratic nomination for President of the United States at Denver's INVESCO Field at Mile High. INVESCO Field can accommodate more than 75,000 people and will be the site of the 2008 Democratic Convention's final day of programming on Thursday, August 28, 2008.

"The Democratic Party is nominating a true change candidate this August, and it is only fitting that we make some big changes in how we put on the Convention," said Governor Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). "Senator Obama's candidacy has generated an enormous amount of excitement and interest, not only in the Democratic Party but also in the 2008 Convention. By bringing the last night of the Convention out to the people, we will be able to showcase Barack Obama's positive, people-centered vision for our country in a big way."

I made my flight arrangements this morning.  Didn't get a delegate slot this year (although my partner got one so I can get a spouse badge).  Was desperately trying to find a way to get into the delegate hall on Thursday night for the big speech and now, well it should be a little easier since they are changing venues.  The campaign is getting quite ambitious.  No Presidential candidate has ever made an acceptance speech like this with over 70,000 people in the crowd.  It won't be the largest crowd he's ever spoken to at one time (he's had some rallies that were well over 70,000 in different states), but it's a big first for the nominating convention.  Anyone else going to be there?

I've been to Denver a few times.  There is only one major artery on the east side of the Rockies that runs north & south, and it meets east & west at Denver.  There traffic there sucks on the best of days.

I'll bet even the mass transit (if Denver has anything other than City busses) gets stuck in jams for this thing.

The just put in a rail.. it doesn't go everwhere though and certainly doesn't go to the airport (at some point it will...)  I'm just glad this stuff ain't going on until after i get out of this state... else it would make things annoyin for me.

Got two brothers in Denver, been there many times.

Words of advice:
Bring an appetite as there is a vast quantity of eating establishments (folks there don't seem to cook)
DO NOT wear sports apparel that is non-Rockies/Nuggets/Avalanche (folks there are rabid about the local teams).
Staying downtown? Bring a camera as the radical side of the party has been planning some major league hijinks for months.
Mass transit there sucks eggs, rent a bike. There a hidden bike paths http://www.outspokin.org/Bike_Maps.htmthrough the city that will take you way in to the suburbs without every having to venture into their crazy traffic.

I think they're afraid that Bill Clinton might show up with an aide and a box of cigars.

Hrm...

Yeah, that'll work.

Here's a question for ya.  Would you rather see Rosanne Barr in a bikini than go to a political rally, or watch Britney Spears' movie Crossroads?

And do you have any hot coals to spare???  I feel like a hot bath right now.

I'd rather watch Britney Spear's movie while getting a lapdance from Rosanne Bar in a bikini than be within 500 miles of a major party's convention.  I'd rather wear a neckbrace to dinner during "free meal to starving trial lawyer" night than go to a political convention.

Sorry, all out of coals.. cooked brauts for dinner.. and afterwards, smoked me a big ole' Honduran stogey with a Cuban twist.

Dracho, I like your mental status.  Would you like a managerial position within my demon organization?  I'll have you as the assistant VP in charge of gruesome punishments.  You'll also be in charge of the company picnics working the grills.

 ;D ;D

But, I see the logic behind the Rosanne lapdance.  I wouldn't want to touch Britney with a 10 AU pole.

LOL.. the wife and I stopped at the store on the way home from work and she pointed out a picture of a rather portly Britney on one of the tabloids.  The poor cashier nearly died when I said, "Well, it's official, Britney has officially moved out of the "approach her and then buy her some drinks" category, and into the "buy yourself some drinks and then approach her" category.   ;D

I'm always open to short-term contracts.  I tend to avoid long-term evil contracts because from time-to-time it is required that I assist the other side to maintain balance.  Keeps me employable.  There is a hefty sir-charge for each minion I am required to poison at company picnics.  I hate puke and poison always makes them foam and hurl, and their twitching bodies spews it everywhere.. disgusting.  I am also a member of the drywaller's union, so I do not clean up any messes I make, but I can recommend some services....

I rarely do contracts.  That's why I still have Virgin Mobile.  Also, the position doesn't pay anything, but does have its perks.  Mainly it's a job that you do for the love of it cause you're good at it.

My mother and I are staying away from any Florida market.  She got screwed over big time in Florida, and the fun ain't over yet.  Just hope that we don't lose our house.  We'll see.

As for Arizona, I'd like to buy some tax lien certificates in that state.  Need some cash though.
