This is not to say that all holiday weekends are filled with dread if you work in IT.

“If you like computers, it doesn’t matter much if you’re stuck working on them over the weekend,” a Sacramento-based software CEO weighed in.

In fact, many even choose to work on personal or business technology projects on the weekend, in part to stay ahead of the game but also because they’re so passionate about it.

“It’s not required for my job, but I’ll be prepping over the weekend for the MCTS: SQL Server 2005 exam,” Jerry Hammond, an operations manager at a computer learning center in Las Vegas told me. “I have some time to do this during my regular work week, but this is once again quickly becoming a competitive market.”

Okay, I understand the need for privately owned businesses to work on weekends, but if I had a boss that said

If you like computers, it doesn’t matter much if you’re stuck working on them over the weekend,” a Sacramento-based software CEO weighed in.

I might kill him.  Sure, I like building houses and building in general, but if you think that's an excuse to get me stuck building them over the weekend...because I "like" it that much...think again.  I know VERY few people that will choose to work over the weekend no matter how much they love their job.  Most computer people if they work weekends, are working weekends because they have to to stay afloat (such as privately owned business people) or because their boss told them they have too (otherwise they might still be on a computer, but it would be their own, and they'd be doing their own thing)...NOT because of how much they just love the job.

I used to think of my previous line of employment as work. What I do now is fun...and someone actually pays me to have fun.
