Not able to login
« on: June 08, 2008, 01:48:33 pm »
When I get to the login screen, it gives me all sorts of gibberish.
If OP is going to behave this way then forget it. I will not play this server.

I was looking forward to playing. :(

The Gamespy login screen or the campaign selector screen?

If its the campaign selector screen I'll tell you about a problem I had getting on AOTK.

When you run the AOTK installer a DOS box appears on your screen. It doesn't do anything for a while but then it runs and closes itself. I just X-ed it off the first time (cuz I didn't read the directions close enough...lol...go figure) and then I got all kinds of bad crc stuff. I ran the installer again and let the DOS box run and close itself and then I got on np.

The installer uses a batch file to back up your game content so it can be restored, before the batch file can start backing up files, it has to ATTRIB the files to all SFC OP directories removing Read Only.. it is the ATTRIB process that takes a few moments to process.

Go to your Starfleet Command game directory

Find the StarfleetOP.exe game file, fight click, select "copy".

Go to desktop, find empty area and right click, click "paste shortcut"

Use this shortcut to launch game.. the shortcut in your start menu points to the SFCOP.exe and it is broken.. You MUST use the StarfleetOP.exe to play.

Did you follow the install instructions for SFC OP?

1. TURN OFF ANTI-VIRUS

2. INSTALL OP, SAY NO TO GAMESPY ARCADE SETUP AND NO TO DIRECTX 7

3. PATCH WITH V2.5.5.2
ftp://www.dynaverse.net/sfc2_op/patches/SFCOP_Patch_2500-2552.exe

4. MAKE SHORTCUT TO POINT TO THE STARFLEETOP.EXE GAME FILE, SFCOP.EXE FILE IS BROKEN

5. INSTALL THE DIRECTORY SERVER FIX
ftp://www.dynaverse.net/sfc2_op/patches/sfc2_directory_server_updater.exe

4. INSTALL FIRESOUL'S OP+ V4.0
ftp://ftp.xenocorp.net/game_files/Star_Trek/starfleet_command/Starfleet_Command_OP/shiplists/opplus_40_models.exe   MODELED VERSION

ftp://ftp.xenocorp.net/game_files/Star_Trek/starfleet_command/Starfleet_Command_OP/shiplists/opplus_40_no_models.exe  NO MODEL VERSION

6. INSTALL THE AOTK4 INSTALLER ALLOWING FOR DOS WINDOW TO CLOSE ON ITS OWN
http://xenocorp.net/downloads/game_files/Star_Trek/starfleet_command/Starfleet_Command_OP/Campaigns/AotK_V/AOTK4.exe

7. INSTALL LATEST VERSION OF DIRECTX LOCATED AT

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=740AC79A-5B72-447D-84F9-EE6407ED1A91&displaylang=en

WHEN YOU RUN THIS FILE, IT WILL ASK TO EXTRACT TO A DIRECTORY, POINT TO A LOCATION THAT YOU KNOW, LIKE 'MY DOCUMENTS' AND CREATE A NEW FOLDER. AFTER EXTRACTION, GO INTO NEW FOLDER AND RUN SETUP.EXE. AFTER DIRECTX INSTALLS, DELETE FOLDER AND RESTART SYSTEM.

8. MAKE SURE YOUR VIDEO DRIVERS ARE LATEST VERSION
9. TURN OFF FIREWALL OR CONFIGURE CORRECTLY FOR SFC-OP
10. WHEN DONE PLAYING TURN ANTI-VIRUS BACK ON
11. WHEN GOING TO PLAY AGAIN, TURN ANTI-VIRUS BACK OFF

ALSO MAKE SURE YOU ARE RUNNING XP

VISTA LAGS SEVERELY ON THE DYNAVERSE 2 SERVERS  .... USE VISTA ONLY FOR SINGLE PLAYER, GAMESPY ARCADE OR LAN PARTY ONLY, NOT DYNAVERSE 2

maybe you missed one of the install steps.. most people skip step 1 which breaks the game.

If you have Vista, please state as such and I can give you install instructions for Vista, however D2 will be almost unplayable.. so it would only be for Gamespy Arcade, Lan parties or Single Player.

The game hasn't changed in years, not since Dnet took over hosting the directory servers (2004?).  Get with me and/or Pesty tonight on Teamspeak and we'll go over everything.

The game hasn't changed, the directory services haven't changed, the access services haven't changed.
It could be your ISP now blocking one of those lovely ports that the firewall detector needs open
Bonk had some trouble a while ago to just on a straight dialup connection, so you might want to check the thread about his trials and tribulations getting to logging back into OP. http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163379947.0.html
Might spark an idea :)

What I found recently was that just turning off the windows firewall did not work, (new UPnP dependencies?) I had to go into the control panel - administrative tools - services applet and stop the windows firewall and UPnP services manually.
