Ramses Class Experimental Pre-TOS (WIP)
« on: June 06, 2008, 06:05:33 pm »
OK, here is something I'm working on trying to remember how to model. This was inspired by the Hercules Class from EAS Fleetyards. Right now it's just a wip, and in MAX 2009 to boot, so don't know if it will ever be released, but wanted y'all to see I was working on something. Starting to remember how to do this, so bear with me...this'll probably change many times as I remember how to do things. Stands at 6,061 poly's right now...trying to remember how to cut em down, but this version of MAX is way different than MAX 5 which I'm used to, lol.

Ok, I see this as an Assault Frigate, very fast and manouverable(sp?), with a decent weapons package for it's size.

I'd say bump up the polys on the saucer to get a smoother rim.  The poly count even as she stands now is perfect.

The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.

Yeah, the saucer looks a little rough...fixing it'll make the poly count higher though. I'm trying to stay in the under 10,000 poly range, and still have some details to do. I'll try it out and see how much the count goes up. ;)

Well, I'd extend the deflector area a bit, and finish the shape up in the usual pre-TOS/TOS setup.

only worry about the polies on the rim of your saucer.  You can say have a 64 or higher iteration rim but actully only have about 32 or less for everything else on the saucer through welding of points.  The smoothing will take care of those areas pretty effectively.  You should be able to make a saucer for about 2.5 k at most after poly cutting

Thanx, I like the nacelles too, lol. Worked on the saucer, got it looking better. Did the cutout for the secondary hull...poly count now comes in at 6,127. ;) Starting to remember a few things, although there is stuff I can't find with this ver. of MAX. Anyone know how to chk for mesh erors with MAX 2009 32-bit? Anyway, I'll have some updated pics later on today. ;D

The ship is quite nice, it reminds me of the gold Enterpirse models you see in Star Trek: First Contact.

Its the same stl check as max 4 /5 versions for mesh errors  .  Lookin good by the way though i would sugjest champhering those sacer edges 1 time to make it a little smoother. It shouldnt increase the poly by more than 500 unless the sacer is layerd . But it would look alot smoother.
