i used the beta version of the download for this. THIS caused a game problem. I could no longer type, nor could I enter my GSA info, nor could the BPV of a hosted game show.
I uninstalled the Beta, only to find the game crashed constantly upon reloading. I truly hope all problems are fixed SOON.
The problem is not the installation files not is it the server.. it is either your AV or improper patching of the game.
#1, Uninstall the game.
#2, TURN OFF Anti-Virus completely !!! I have over 100 posts on this board stating TURN OFF YOUR ANTI-VIRUS before doing anything else.
#3, re-install SFC-OP, say no to Gamespy Arcade and say no to DirectX and do this with Anti-Virus turned off
#4, Download a fresh copy of the 2.5.5.2 game patch.. Anti-Virus software can corrupt / block the file when downloading.
#5, install the patch with Anti-Virus turned off
#6, Install the directory server update file with Anti-Virus turned off.
#7, Install OP+ v4.0 with Anti-Virus turned off.
#8, Install the AOTK4 MSI file with Anti-Virus turned off.
#9, Go in to your SFC-OP game folder, find the StarfleetOP.exe file, right click, select 'Copy', go to desktop in blank area, right click and select 'Paste Shortcut'. You will use this to launch game.. the shortcut made in the start menu points to the sfcop.exe game file and is MAJORLY BUGGED (which is posted over 100 times on these boards as well)
#10, Update your DirectX to the latest version.. Use the 68.5 MB installer (redistributable) posted by Microsoft March 7, 2008. This will ensure your DirectX is completely reinstalled file by file as well as fix any registry entries that may have been corrupted by other software. Install this with your Anti-Virus turned off. You will first run the file and it will extract to a folder.. then you have to run the Setup.exe file in the folder you extracted to.
You should be able to play on the AOTK server correctly now with your keyboard working and everything. So far I have about 20 people signed into and playing on AOTK 4 without the issues you are describing.. so either the problem is with the server kit and game (which if there were, no one would be able to play).. or you configured your game wrong.
Finally, when playing on the D2, Turn off Anti-Virus to prevent packet loss and turn off Firewall to help prevent anomalous porting errors, unless you are really familiar with configuring firewalls / routers...
It is that easy.. takes about 15 min to be completely set up to play.
