Hey thanks all.... I pulled the battery then replaced it. Powered up, obviously had to reset the system clock, and was told battery voltage was dangerouosly low. I'll do a google search for the exact solution as Dracho said. Again, thanks everyone. I always know I can find a few answers here...... ;D

So I take it was the passworded BIOS then.  Interesting.  That sounds like it may have used to be a government or company official computer or used by an employee of one of those two with official information on that computer.  Most people don't password their BIOS because it can be a major pain in the neck sometimes, but it IS demanded by government and Company Computer Departments on occasion.

It strikes me as a company-owned. Work has been a pain lately, and I've been too tired to mess with it. I'll pull it back out one of these days. Funny, the battery looks just like a watch battery.....

It is similar to a watch battery.  Its entire job is to keep the BIOS memory active and the system clock running.

Both salvaged Dells are working.  I'm posting from the one I salvaged for my mother.  Everything is just fine.  Now to download all the (legal) free software for her.  Fortunately she has broadband.  I turned the HD performance settings up.  Activated hyperthreading and the performance is quite good.  Faster than when we used them at work.

The only problem is its Windows XP.
