Testing my server : Hardcore XC

I just started my Hardcore XC server.

I am debugging it right now and I would like people to jump on it. Read the description first.

Server is starting in early era.. BPV matching should be turned off

You will need the scripts from The Forge on the server and you will also need the regular OP + v4.0 right now..

Edit : You will need the stock Taldren scripts installed as well.. I just noticed people trying to log in that had the stock mission missing.

The shiplist will change when the server take full effect and will then be running the OP + v4.0 Hardcore (Xenocorp Edition) which I will post when the server will stay live.

DB resets may be frequent due to it running in flatfile currently and I may need to change server settings.

Hop on and try out the AI and see what you think.. Let me know if the server is too hard.

My initial test, my first mission, me in a Frig against a Rom HC.. Second mission was me in my Frig in a Ambush Reversed and their fleet had a Dread in it and they were all Hydran.. Needless to say they squashed me.

The map is from one of the Forge servers, either current or the one previous.. not sure which.

Anyhow, hop on and see what you think.

Just reset DB on the server.. adjusted ship prices, repair costs, and supply costs..

Doh! :smackhead: I saw the title in the serverlist and switched over to the hardcore shiplist before logging in, lol that explains it. I'll switch back to OP+4 and give er a go!

Got one mission in so far, I drew a L-JGP (I think it was) vs my Z-FF. I had to run away like a little girl! lol. The hex was neutral 10 when I want in and after losing the mission flipped to 8 Lyran!  :o I'm thinking it's safest if I don't try to boost my homeworld. ;)

I like the shock value. Though you may want to soften the blow a little... the low tensions with the neutrals had me feeling at ease, like ok, I can sail around wherever I want... and then bam! A tough server always takes a little getting used to.

I'll try a few more and see what I get, so far the connection and everything seems fine. No lag in supply. I haven't checked the shipyards yet. Are you running it right on Vista or in a VM?

Running Vista 64 bit.. I think I can get VM running a kit as well.. almost had it connect, but it dumped out because of the Hardcore server running on Vista environment.. had conflict with the Directory server.

as in soften the blow.. is that the prestige hit, Hex Defense hit?

the AI really throws things at you eh?

Lol, yes, all of the above. Not much though. I just ran a second mission and managed to finish it. It was fun, but my Hydran wingmen got bored of fighting the Lyrans and attacked each other then one of them ran off the map in a huff... It was weird because they started out allied and in formation, but there was one of those periods where they were away from the action where it seems the mission AI is most likely to go awry.

What is wrong with this picture? ;)

You know what? I bet the Lyran AI captured it... (duh) The AI was pulling appropriate hets and the works, so I would not be surprised, and that was how I won the mission was by capturing that last L-CL since it had no marines left.

that sounds like a script bug and not a server setting..

let me run the server for a couple days and see what the other feedback is on it.. I'll tweak it before I run it live.. Might just use the settings in an actual campaign.. I'm chatting with Frey on that right now.

Edit .. posted this while you were posting.. it is quite possible the AI captured it.. I bumped the AI intelligence level in the GF files from 1.5 to 1.75 on Admiral level.. should make for some intresting mission don't you think?

Adjusted hex health reset ratio.. should only drop 10 DV hexes by 2 DV now.. had setting way too high before.

On my tests, the area where I started, all I draw currently is Rom HC's and DN.. but so far nothing that my little F-FF can't handle.. I can't wait to buy a bigger ship.. then the fun begins. My allies have been Fed and Lry ships.. so far so good.

So what's the feedback so far.. AI BPV too high? Got your ship captured by the AI yet? Too many enemy ships?

People asked for a Hardcore server.. this server ignores BVP matching.. and you may just draw big iron for a bit until the economy settles down some (once races gain territory)...

The server is still going to run for another 2 days before I replace the shiplist.. I would like feedback on the server before I send it live.. I know the settings still need some tweaking.. so please talk to me so I can at least make it tough and fun... The Idea is to make AI battles challenging and eliminate the 2 or 3 min battles and make the battles last roughly 9 to 10 min or so.. this way it not only challenges PVPers, but hex Flippers as well.

Logged as Klingon E4C little too small  for my taste got in an F5D. Lets just say you have to EARN your prestige.Never drew a DN but was getting a F-GSC 1v1 or a F-CC.
ED missions 3v3 i got 1 of each mostly adding a F-CL .If u have a dwn shield they will beam over.The ai you get for wings matches up nice too.Only noticed the speed change for first cpl missions then you're used to it.Other than the starting ship ....I give it 2 thumbs up. Nice work Pesty.

Yeah, got E4deathtrap as starting ship, got a F5C...took data recovery as first mission, drew a F-GSC, just flew by him, fired one alpha turned off dizzies and put the pedal to the metal for the listening post.
Got mission complete, then CTD'd.  :huh:
Logged back in, in the hex where I ctd'd, moved back to HW and back to the same hex, took "patrol" again drew a GSC, took 22 min to beat the bastage and I took a hellva beating in the process...
Whew...hardcore man.
Noticed the F5 hull still show as a CL, maybe why it keeps drawing CA hulls...?
Or does everyone draw like that in a DD?

Played about a dozen missions with an I-DD. Only pulled one mission where I felt I had to run: Data Recovery with a H-TEM and two H-RN (24 fighters! :o). I might have survived (I had one Lyran heavy cruiser as help), but since the mission gave me an out for a quick 350 PP, I took it. My missions did take longer, but really only because I spend about five minutes chasing the AI after I down a shield. Its pretty funny to see a H-LM running like a little girl from an I-DD!  ;D

Actually, I'm thinking that the higher AI "intelligence" setting is a bad thing. In a ship with two Transporters I was able to capture two enemy ships in one mission simply because they emptied themselves of Marines in useless capture attempts. Apparently, they never taught the AI to play Risk and told it you need an advantage in troops to attack.

I can see that for other races, besides Gorn and possibly Mirak, that it could be hard in Early era with these odds. Its easy to crack a shield with two F-Torps, four PH-1's and plenty of power to get the AI to pull off and get defensive. Most races FF's and DD's don't have that kind of firepower yet.

flew some a few days ago.  Flew Lyran, drew HC and odd DN, many tough battles. Still have not lost my GPJ.

I will have to give this one a try.  It actually takes into account the fortunes of war in that you might run across a battleship in your destroyer and have to run, just like in the real naval world.  ;D
