NVidia Scaling of OP on Widescreen Montior
« on: April 02, 2008, 12:38:24 am »
OK...

My Monitor is an I-Inc TW191D Widescreen Monitor 16:10 at 75Hz at 5ms refresh

my resolution is 1440 x 900

Using NVidia's Scaling I can play OP in 1152 x 860 resolution without the screen being stretched. (pic 1)

below is a pic of my normal desktop (pic2)

Next is how NVidia scales the chat screen with the game displaying 1152x860 and my monitor is at 1440x900 resolution (pic 3)

this is now the game is scaled on my monitor while in a mission.. notice how the NVidia scales out the control panel to outside the actual playing area.. but the game is not distorted at all... (pic4)

The only thing you have to do is put the game into the resolution that has either the same or next size down Vertical height..

Like my Monitor vertical height is 900 pixels .. so i put OP into 1152x860 display mode since the closest game resolution to 900 pixels without going over is 860..

as you can see, the game plays fine without any distortion and i don't have to keep switching my display from Widescreen to Standard.. I just let the Vid Card scale for me..

Sorry Pesty, the 8600 doesn't have that option. It just lets you change the desktop resolution.

Actualy I found it online under "Star Trek Remastered" using Live Search and clicked on images.. I then enhanced it and resized it down to 1440x900 (Original was 2400x1800) using Paintshop Pro X2.

Sorry Pesty, the 8600 doesn't have that option. It just lets you change the desktop resolution.

Which version of the Forceware are you running? I have driver version 174.74 which is at the moment Beta, but extremely stable and gives smooth performance, better frame rates, and lowers the heat put out by my 8800GTX.. Drivers downloaded from NVidia.com. The control panel above is part of the Driver Package all the way back to the November 2007 drivers.. although the current release at NVidia is December 20, 2007.. that also has the Control panel in it.

To open the Control Panel, Right click on desktop in empty area and click on NVidia Control Panel

I have no idea what drivers are running. Whatever came with the disk Frey sent me. I know I didn't install everything, but I'm pretty sure it was just the TV stuff that I never intend to use.

The selections I have showing under Display are:

Run Display Optimization Wizard

Move CRT Screen Position

Change Resolution

Adjust Desktop Color Settings

Rotate Display

Manage Custom Resolutions

Set Up Multiple Displays

You might also want to check your monitor as well.  Some (like my dell 24" widescreen) have options like 1:1, aspect and fill.  Using Aspect i get the same effect as you get using the software.  So there ya go... another method ;).
