Weather Radio codes.
« on: April 03, 2008, 03:52:47 pm »
Since we have all had some strange weather the last year, The wife and I bought a Weather Radio. anyway, Setting them up is pretty easy, but some here who travel alot, might like to have a direct link to the S.A.M.E. codes that will be for your area.

anyways, here's the link http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/indexnw.htm

If you don't have a weather radio, they are pretty cheap right now. We got ours for about 30 bucks. It's well worth it, just to keep you and the family safe.

Good post Stephen. I've been meaning to check the weather today to see when this wind will end, the house has literally been shaking and shuddering with the wind for the last few days. I had to take all the tarps off a portable garage I'm using to cover the tractor so they wouldn't get torn to shreds in this wind.

Here's the Canadian weather radio guide:

First, Thanks Bonk, for posting a link to the Canadian users of this fine board.

Secondly, Actually, we do have a radio there, But the dispatcher doesn't.  There being the fire house. Remember, we are still pretty small, covering about 1200 Families in our area. Granted I would love to have someone there 24 seven. I've even argued for it. Sadly, Unless IT was me, There would be no one there to do it.

That being said, I have managed to get passed in our council, a Accuview forcast add on for all those who are a volunteer.

One problem, Is from the last chief, and In a way, I understand where he is coming from.

We where asked to be storm chasers, something I would have done in a heart beat. However, when asked about the NOAA, paying for hail damage, etc. to our vehicals, they said no. It would be out of our pockets. With our budget, take the 1200 , about half of them pay the 75 dollar fee for there protection (man I sound like a rackateer) . Anyways, that makes about $4500.00 / year, in which we pay maintenance on equipment, fuel, Training, Granted we have recieved a few grants. We actually got a 5K grant since I took the lead job, And most of that was spent on Training.

I know you know where I'm coming from Postman, Hell, your one of our biggest supporters, But there isn't enough Money to house a crew ready to go. Many times I've had to take out a Brush humper, Because I was the only one there for a grass fire. I hate that, as I believe in the buddy system. But, It's a solemn oath to my fellow man, that one takes into there heart. So I have to respond.
