S&M on Discovery Channel
« on: March 31, 2008, 04:14:14 pm »
Animal mating rituals, aboriginal nudity... that's all fine.

This however has gone too far:
http://www.discoverychannel.ca/shows/showdetails.aspx?sid=5705

Has anybody else seen this abomination? Does anybody else find it as offensive as I do? Am I just a prude?

It would be one thing if they called it what it is, but they are masquerading as "science". (Good Lord)

A second season? There must be viewers out there who get off on this guy's punishment like she does.

I saw about 2 minutes of the show, and decided I didn't care for it. Oh well, axemen is holding my attention right now.

Don't worry, Bonk.  He's getting punished, so it's OK.

If she were getting punished, then it would be an outrage and have to be stopped.

I wish I could laugh.

It's not him being punished that offends me but her taking pleasure in it, and the fact that this is acceptable? Perhaps a letter to the CBSC is in order. I know the many letters they received about Clairol's simulated orgasm shampoo commercials did help put a stop to that abomination and they stopped their sex ads for a few years, but are sneaking the sex content back in slowly...

The site isn't loading for me for some reason, but the truth is that the discovery channel has gone down hill in recent years.  I think its been a victim of its own success.  With the parent company spinning off its programming for new networks, its nowhere near as good as it used to be.

Why is that a bad thing? Both parties are enjoying it apparently.

It's perfectly acceptable. Yea, they're kinky bastards, but hey, a little kink can be a goot thing right? Now, even with a name line punisher, I still draw the line and anyone hurting me during sex..but still different strokes for different folks and all that jazz right?

There are lots of things I don't like on tv. When they come on, I usually just change the channel.

Perhaps I am just being a prude then.

Exactly, as the old saying goes: "If you don't like the war, turn it off."  ;D

Hmmm...and this channel is for kids?

For those kids that were up at the "special time" that this thing aired.  truthfully, with the exception of mythbusters, and the occasional special the discovery channel today is only the cr*p they couldn't spin off onto other channels.  Its such a shame.  When I was 10, I used to love the discovery channel.
