Does Anyone Know the Name of This Video Game?
« on: March 28, 2008, 12:29:44 am »
Far back in the pea soup mists of time (or as we Cromagnons called it back then:  "the early 80s") there were two revolutionary video games.  One was Dragon's Lair which was based on laser disc technology and used cartoons to recreate the game play.  The other was a 3-dimensional holographic game.  There was a sort of wizard or something that briefed you before each "game episode".  You played a cowboy character and had a showgirl sidekick.  Does anyone remember this game and if so, what was it called?  I've been wracking my brain for weeks but I just can't get my finger on it.

Ha!  Excellent, Manitoba!  Seeing the video bits from the game takes me right back to Felton's grocery store and the endless time spent hovering around the comic book rack and the video games while mom did the shopping.  The Time Traveler game was a leap of light years in terms of advances in video game technology.  I've always wondered why games like Dragon's Lair and Time Traveler never went further than they did and why those game formats were never used again.  Imagine playing Rainbow Six, Call of Duty or one of the Star Wars games in the Time Traveler format.
