Hey all. Some dynaverse help needed.
« on: March 21, 2008, 03:20:02 am »
Pardon, not played in several years now. I used to be a Gorn Fleet Admiral in the GFL.

Then I got bored with my current games, dug out old ones, and started to see if the community ever took up this old game and found this site.

I've installed the updates, updated the Dynaverse directory files. I appear to get logged in, but do not see any servers yet.

Do you not see servers with incompatible ship files? Do I need to install anything like OP+4 in addition to my current installations before I start seeing the servers? Or are there just no servers up currently.

Updates appreciated. Thanks

Vortex

You need to get the current server directory fix.. it should be in the sub forum for enhancements

Also you could get the OP Enhancement Pack v5.1 which has almost everything in it in 1 installer.

hope that this helps

Thought I had the current directory fix, perhaps I do not. I am getting the 5.1 enhancement package now. Maybe it will help. Going to look around for a more recent copy of the directory listings.

If sfc2_directory_server_updater is the file I need, I've got it and run it.

I get to a screen that has the listing area for servers, with races, campaign, etc... but it does not show anything within the list. My firewall is set to have my pc as DMZ so the pc gets everything. Nothing is currently showing in the list at all however, which is why I was wondering if there is even a server that is currently up and running.

I found 2 links to the directory server update, one in forums, one on the site. I am not sure which version I have. I haven't been able to verify I have anything other than version 1.0 of this file. If someone could link me to the most recent directory services listing I'd be appreciative.

I guess the first thing we need to know is if this is EAW or OP? I know there are two OP servers up rght now, but I don't know about EAW. If you get all the way to the server screen, I doubt it is a firewall problem.

Patch version makes a difference too.. you have to have patch v2552.

the out of box game v2500 will see the directory server, but not any servers.. only current patch version will see the servers..

You have to install game, install patch, then install the directory server fix.. this is the basic set up..

All the bells and whistles are in the Enhancement package..

just remember that when patching the game, or installing the Enhancement Package, you will need to turn off or disable your Anti-Virus..

Hope that this helps.

Anti virus was disabled. Was using 2.5.5.2 when I could see the servers. Was using 2.5.0.0 clean install when tried the 5.1 enhancement package and it seems not to work (going to try re downloading it in hopes it corrupted). No anti viruses or firewalls were on during the time. I use AVG. So yeah, wish me luck.. going to try this again now.

Welcome back, sir...  I'm pretty sure I flew with you way back in the day; was a member of the EFF back then.

Yeah, I think I remember you too Paladin. I hope that as more people realize the dynaverse is not dead for SCFOP 2 a few will come back. Good news, I isolated the problem. It appears to have been a conflict caused when I patched the servers before installing 5.1 on the old 2.5.0.0 patch. The 2.5.5.2 patch failed to update when the 5.1 executable ran because of the patched servers. So important to remember for future folks trying to install. Make sure EVERYTHING is identical to first install of 2.5.0.0. Even a slightly modified file will throw off the installation of the 2.5.5.2 patch, even something as simple as the server list being updated. Must be pure off the cd install to work.
