Star Trek: The Experience
« on: February 29, 2008, 11:57:53 am »
So, this past weekend, I went off to Las Vegas to meet up with an USAF buddy who was flying into there for some sort of training or something.  Anyways, he had a few afternoons and evenings where he could do stuff, so we went off and did some things out there.  Being the Star Trek Fan I insisted that we go off to Star Trek the Experience.  He as someone who also enjoys Star Trek agreed.

I enjoyed it.  The Klingon experience is better than the Borg one, but I loved seeing Voyager come at you in 3d, getting a sense of the size there.  The Birds of Prey that you can see in the Klingon ride however, and the way it works was more fun.  There's one part where they transport you via transporters at the beginning which I think I've figured out, but is pretty cool as well.

I thought the gift shops were great, they have a ton of stuff there!  My friend picked up a Star Fleet hat, whilst I picked up some UFP and Klingon steel/plastic shot glasses, which since they are bigger than normal shot glasses, makes them perfect!

:)

Anyone else been to this.

I'd say it's good to go out there and see maybe for a day visit, I didn't stay at that hotel however, stayed at one a little further down the Strip.  I don't think Las Vegas is really something I enjoy all that much though, it's all about the gambling in the end.

I suppose for the Americans it can count towards being the city of sin, but I really think Amsterdam blows Vegas away.  Still it was a fun experience, though I left after the weekend.  I think my Air Force friend had to stay and work though so it wasn't all fun and games for him.

It is a fun place. Did you go to Quarks and have a Warp Core Breach or two :D

It's kind of funny. I think I had the same reaction to Amsterdam as you had to Vegas. As for which is the "Sin City" In someways I found Amsterdam to be tame. But then you walk a block or two and you run into some wild Sh** :o ;D

I went to Quarks, thought some of the food tasted a little odd.

Very cool was that they had two guys dressed up in the ORIGINAL Klingon getup (looking like the Klingons from the Original TOS, without the ridges, not the type that represented Klingons from TMP onwards) sitting at the bar!

So I had a few drinks, and some odd tasting food...whilst my friend didn't drink (he drove) but he also had some of the food.  We both agreed that Quarks needs to improve their recipes.  Some of the alcohol isn't bad however.

Can't go wrong, with 11 differant hard drinks thrown in a fish bowl wit hDry ice And Blue Coraco. at least I think that was what was in It. I know after two of those, DarkBlade and I where feeling no pain.

Somewhere around here, I have the Videos we made, with Kirk and the crew.

Glad you liked It Dash. I was just suggesting it to a friend on another forum.

Have to admit that you have a good point about the food. I've been to Quarks at least 20 times and found the food to be hit and miss. The best Item was the Flaming Ribs of Targ, followed closely by the Pipius Claw or what ever its called. Stay away from the following. The Photon Torpedo, and the Jambalaya  :puke:

Aw heck heres the menu from Quarks http://www.startrekexp.com/pdf/quarks_menu.pdf

I'm 1/4 Cajun and live in south Louisiana, and even I don't like jambalaya. There are countless other Cajun dishes that are better, and some of them don't even involve roadkill!  :drink:

I am sure there must be some rule of acquisition regarding sh*tty food.

Been a while since I have been in there.  I remember a klingon experience.  do you get a choice now?

Well, I got one ticket for 40 USD.  It was good for all day on either of the two Borg or Klingon.  To go to the backstage tour took a little more I believe, and they also had the opportunity for sitting in the captains chair and getting a picture taken (you hear that guys, that's CAPTAIN JONES to you now... :)  ).

Then there's also the two shops around quarks where people like me spend a small fortune and then wonder how we ended up spending several hundred bucks on such a small quantity of stuff.

Rules of acquisition sound like they are in full force.

And a picture in the center seat sounds.. like.. ultra cool.

I remember going to this when it first opened (and was just the Klingon Experience).  Last year I went again and got to experience both the Klingon and Borg tracks.  As far as which is better, I still prefer the Klingon experience, especially being beamed up to the Enterprise (and yes, since my last name is Kirk I DO say "Kirk to Enterprise, beam me up!")  When I showed one of the cast members my ID and he saw the "Kirk" (back when it first opened), I got a second run-through for free and one of the crew members made a comment about 'looking for Picard's ancestor, not Kirk's"  - liitle did she know.

As much as the Experience itself, I enjoy taking the time and walking slowly through the displays along the way.  I don't know how often they change, but I saw new things on them last time I went.  It was good seeing them period.

Oh, and Quark's - the food sucks usually but I've breached my warp core one too many times and have since been banned from Star Fleet Academy for scaring their midshipmen.  Something about the midshipmen should be able to lock themselves in their quarters and feel safe, not feeling trapped, but that's their problem, not mine.  Next time I go though, I want to buy a case of the Klingon Bloodwine they have on sale....
